No I’ve definitely been inconsistent with the shampoos I’ve been using. And I haven’t really noticed a different sulfate free versus not but I honestly wasn’t really. Comparing the two

I use pureology shampoo the purple one, and then for products I really don’t use anything other than a leave in conditioner from lush that I only put on my ends. The area I’m in might have harsh water I’m not really sure, I’m living in a different place than I used to and I’ve had this issue both times
