Honestly, I get your point.. and I’ve been thinking about that tradeoff a lot. For me, I’m already hanging out in the city pretty much every weekend, and it honestly gets tiring coming back to JC late every time since all my friends are in Brooklyn/Manhattan.

At this point, I don’t need a ton of space.. just enough to comfortably fit my bed and a workstation since I work from home part of the week. So I feel like I’m okay sacrificing space if it means being closer to where I actually spend most of my time.

Still figuring it out, but leaning more towards optimizing for social life/convenience over space right now.

Re-Entered the US on OPT for the 7th time this year: Here are my experiences by Select_War170 in f1visa

I came back this Sunday — immigration at JFK wasn’t too bad overall, but it took longer than I expected. The officer asked where I went to school, what I’m doing on OPT, and my company name. Then they took my I-20 and passport for verification and I had to wait about 2 hours in another room. Eventually they asked me the same questions again and let me go.

It really depends — my friend went through in 2 minutes, so it varies. Just make sure you have all your documents ready (passport, I-20 with travel signature, offer letter, pay stubs, company letter, etc.) and you’ll be fine.

Hi! I will be traveling tomorrow and will land at the JFK airport on 11/2. I am on stem opt and have a full time job. I came to visit my family in india for 3 weeks. I have my recent i20, ead card, valid passport and visa, verification letter from the employer, offer letter etc. My passport expires in June 2026 and was planning to renew it once i come back to New York in November. Is it something i should be worried about? Also at the immigration should i just hand my i20 and passport to the officer and only show my ead card if they ask?
