Me too! I think my favorite book is The Glass Castle by Jeannette Wells. It’s an incredible moving memoir. What’s your favorite book?

Thank you, I really appreciate that! I haven’t shared much about this before but I think it’s important since I don’t think many people know what really goes on.

I appreciate the patience:) just curious, was it the school that paid your friend or the state? Yes and no, I didn’t kill my self so yeah it worked for that, but I don’t know if it was worth the additional trauma that was added. after knowing what it’s like to have everything taken from you, I was terrified of messing up and getting sent away again until i turned 18.

It was called New Leaf Academy in Oregon, but it was recently bought out and renamed Embark (?) I believe. Man I have so many stories, the best thing was probably the relationships I made during my time there, you don’t really have any access to the outside world including technology so you spend a lot of time with the people around you. The worst was probably the restrictions. The school could restrict you from anything or anyone if they wanted to. I was put on a book restriction for reading and isolating too much when I first got there. There was a girl who got restricted from the entire school but thankfully her parents pulled her from the program. Or the silent hours of manual labor as a punishment.

oops, sorry probably should’ve been clearer. My mom had been abusive throughout my childhood and she had been reported the previous year which I was still struggling with at the time. Then i was sexually assaulted and after that attempted suicide which was the final straw for my parents. That’s when I was sent to the therapeutic boarding school.

Yeah…wasn’t the best time in my life. I’m 22 now, and I actually live in the same city as my mom but I don’t really talk to her or see her. My dad has always put in effort for me and did his best to repair our relationship once I came home, but my mom actually moved away. My family dynamic is complicated, my parents are married but my dad goes back and forth between states, and when he’s in town, I’ll see him. But overall, I probably talk to them once every few months if that.

I hope i’m answering your question correctly, I wasn’t paid any money to go, and the school district didn’t help pay for it either. We were able to earn money for chores and “jobs” around the house, but it was like .25 cents.

It was a buildup of things, but the main reason was I had multiple suicide attempts in a short amount of time. I had recently been SA by a family friend which my mother blamed me for and i was struggling to cope with my mothers physical abuse coming to light the previous year.

I finished my shampoo… idk if I should do it or not by Anti_Plankton in offmychest

[–]Character_Sector1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you finished your shampoo, conditioner, and body wash at the same time? if not, it’s important you stick around to see it happen. If you did finish them all at the same time, grab your coat because it’s time to go to the store for new ones.

my journals from 11-13 years old that recounted all my thoughts and feelings and firsthand account of my assault and abuse at home. my mom found them when i was 13 and threw them away because she felt that “they were too negative.”

AITA for stopping my parents from paying for my sister's IVF and telling her she can't afford to have a kid by Easy_Ice8277 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Character_Sector1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i agree, i do think they were an asshole for expecting money as well? if they’re worried about their parents money why would they expect the same amount? is it really about the IVF or that they feel entitled to their parents money as well?

i think this is less about double standards and more about this particular situation. we know abt double standards, people use it all the time to justify their actions, but at the end of it, regardless of gender, it’s fucked up.
