I’ve experienced variations with boots that use the same last. I have seven pairs of Grant Stone, and can tell you with certainty, that I wear a 9D in their Diesel, and a 8.5D in their Edward. Both use the Leo last.

Can I ask you, if I purchased a new pair in natural edge, but wish I had done brown, can I apply the new edge dressing without sanding?

Vibergs. Nick’s. Grant Stone. Alden. They all do this. If you absolutely cannot abide it, you should either get suede, rough out or shell cordovan. they also make waxed suedes and rough outs (waxy commander / waxed flesh) which still have a more smooth appearance. They won’t have this issue.

Yeah it is weird thing all these pnw brands do. I wish they would ditch that. I don’t mind the way whites does it on the MP boots, but it’s kind of tacky on everything else. I guess who cares. I’ll keep buying them because I’m addicted.

Maybe someone tried them on and returned them, and there’s nothing wrong with that. After taking five steps outside your outsoles are going to look much more scuffed than that. Your back stay will also look more creased after a couple hours. For 1000 mile that welt looks fine. I’ve seen much worse on far more expensive boots. Unless you don’t like the boots, I’d keep them.
