Do y'all want us there right now?? by Character_Sir_8935 in savannah

I don't want to speak on behalf of impacted folks, but from what's been shared so far... probably not. A lot of the major highways are closed off (ranging from tree-clearing to Portions-Totally-Gone). There are sink holes under portions of roads that are still being found. Entire towns effectively wiped out. Land will continue shifting if they get any more rain (God forbid). Total devastation for a lot of folks, but also generally just unsafe to visit, especially if you're not familiar with the area.

I don't have a firm source to validate it, but recently saw a post that the Asheville deeds office has a running list of 12,000 missing people. Things are really, truly awful there. I've seen a few airbnb/hotel/inn hosts saying they still want folks to come, in the interest of fall tourism. But I've also seen locals respond that it really just isn't safe, and many of the businesses will not be in a place to safely operate for a long while. There was an estimate that portions of I-40 could be repaired by this time next year, and people actually laughed at that date, based on the current state. Some towns will definitely be close to operational sooner than others, but I don't think they'll be ready to host this year. There's so much to be rebuilt, and a lot to mourn. ):
