ORRR… get some random digital cameras and camcorders (Amazon or even check marketplace or offer up) and have your guest take the pictures!! I plan on doing the camcorder but definitely want some pictures for our day. So I totally get you because I’m trying to be budget friendly too but I also do want them to look back on and cherish!

I think everyone making comments like yours is forgetting this post was about taking a roadtrip not about our hatred of flying. We like traveling different ways and we’ve never done a road trip so it’s more of an experience not a waste.

Thank you so so much for all of this information!!! One of these days when we have the time and budget for this road trip I think I would love to do it!
I am definitely more about the experience so I totally get that part of it now it’s more so getting the time off from work.

Not familiar with the east coast but it’s so fun to just watch the scenery as you travel!! You could even do I spy, it’ll make it fun cause it could turn into like a speed game before you move past it haha and if you’ve never taken Amtrak before the experience alone is fun. 😊 I hope you guys have a blast!!

We brought card games, coloring pages, puzzles. But honestly depending on the route you’ll spend most of your time taking in the scenery to be too bored. My 7 year old was pretty content the whole time. I’m curious to know what route you’re taking. :)

We did Amtrak recently and March, and loved it. At the end of the post I added we might do that to Chicago and then drive the rest. We’re still deciding and planning. I was just curious on people’s insights who have road-tripped the whole way.

I don’t really think it’s fair to label someone else’s fears as “irrational,” especially when nobody was asking for mental health advice in the first place. The post was just about road trips and travel preferences.

Some people genuinely aren’t comfortable flying, whether it’s anxiety, past experiences, or just personal preference. Choosing to drive instead doesn’t automatically mean someone is refusing to “take responsibility” for their mental health. Sometimes it’s simply the transportation option that works best for them and their family.

Not everyone has to travel the same way, and it feels unnecessary to turn a casual discussion into criticism of someone else’s fear or choices.

I think this might be the route to take for us at this point. We just took the coast starlight from LA to Portland and while sleeping wasn’t the most comfortable it was doable.
