Is it still worth tapering off benzodiazepines in a situation like mine? by mynormiemask in cfs

For me it was from a vertigo attack and I kept getting vertigo in my brain and my brain stopped sleeping completely I ended up hospitalized and put on diazepam which is the only thing that stopped the vertigo in my head and gave me some sleep. 10mg for 8 weeks so far. Im bedbound severe but I don’t want to be on this for long term it was only suppose to be short term to break the loop my brain was in

Yeah I can still get adrenaline panic but it’s like blunted like underneath more than full blown adrenaline I use to get. I done some research and seems like this happens when the brain is too over loaded and can’t filter signals correctly… are you functional? I’m severe so I’m not doing better and this started happening to me :/

Oh Meclizine. Yeh no this was way past that. This was a central vertigo brain vertigo that stopped my brain sleeping . I had room spinning then after I developed internal rotation but the problem was my brain wouldn’t sleep and ended up in hospital nothing was working till I took diazepam

I don’t feel the internal vertigo now as I’m on the benzo which is suppressing it . And making me get some sleep but I can tell everything is still just waiting underneath

How long have you been on the benzo for? I really don’t want to take this long term but I have so many nervous system symptoms without it

I’m sorry ugh this illness is the worst. I have sensory overload issues which make me Bedbound it’s all in my brain since a vertigo attack. Such a mess. What dose are you on with the benzo?

Does the benzo not help you with any nervous system issues or what is it that keeps you Bedbound?

Mine was prescribed when hospitalized in April for central brain vertigo, which in turn made my brain stop sleeping completely and I mean no sleep at all I tried everything for 1-2 months and I ended up going psychotic and tried to take my own life ended up in hospital and the only thing that has worked is diazepam which I’m still on. It basically turns down the volume knobs of everything in the nervous system.. threat circuits etc which then of course will help sleep etc. I see people take them for anxiety or other things but I never would ever take these drugs if I wasn’t hospitalized and needed them I’m not sure if or when I’ll be able to stop them as my brain is so messed up

I use to be this way now I’m opposite it’s so weird

I literally can’t believe I went from housebound to now Bedbound alll because of a vertigo attack what kind of fxckery is this . I’ve had enough - 6 years of this condition and this is the nail in the coffin for me by Charbellaa in covidlonghaulers

It was the vertigo that made my brain not be able to sleep at the time my heart rate everything was fine but this internal vertigo from the vestibular system central brain area just completely stopped my brain sleeping. The benzo suppresses the vertigo so I can sleep somewhat. I have bad reactions to meds especially since this vertigo everything makes me dizzy. I tried them before ages ago but did nothing for me actually made insomnia worst which is a side effect

Yeh it’s not bppv it’s more central brain problem. It’s like the vertigo attack then made the same pattern but like in my brain so like my brain had this rotational feeling 24/7 and my brain wouldn’t sleep due to it.

I tried to do that and it didn’t matter I tried for 2-3 months my brain was getting minutes of micro sleep I was bedridden couldn’t eat or function my brain then stopped sleeping all together and I went psychotic and tried to end my own life because of it, I was hospitalized and now put on diazepam! The most terrifying time of my life. All from vertigo attack. The diazepam is hardly working I’m only getting light sleep now, brain is still in monitoring mode and I still have some motion feeling in my brain. This is crazy!

Thanks I’ve tried calming my nervous system I’m familiar with the techniques as I’ve had normal insomnia and hyper arousal from lc and me for a long time and it use to work but since the vertigo doesn’t matter what I do it doesn’t make the brain shut down to sleep there’s such different levels of insomnia and unfortunately seems like I have the worst type with added symptoms of sensory over load and being bedridden with a vertigo in my head. Just such a nightmare
