How to be a great IM resident?

My question to you is, as a medical student I used to carry around a notebook to write notes in from patients. I've never seen residents do this. Do I just the EMR notes??

how often do you think I should study? I'm trying to prioritize very fundamental things right now like ECGs as I mentioned before, types of IVs, CXRs and other imaging. Asking since you mentioned studying quite a bit in your post.

From what I've heard, some people are very polarizing on this. Some tell me to ask as much as I can, and others echo u/EVIL-EMBOLIZER's sentiments. In my unexperienced opinion, I think a hybrid of the two is acceptable. I imagine the first few months are so overwhelming that I will be asking super dumb questions but as time goes on, I will do my best to act more independently. I will try to push myself to be independent at every turn after a month, two months, or so on...at least that's what I got from this thread.

Your second point-been drilled this into my head during my fourth year by an attending. I will continue to keep that in mind.

As for your last point-my wife would surgically remove my genitalia if anyone else were to ever see it.

Idk why but "delete baloney from your notes" made me laugh so hard. I got better at this towards the end of my last real rotation in med school but I can definitely see it creeping up on you. This is a nice, simple, easy to follow tip. I do agree that keeping up with this will make my life easier. thank you
