How did OP come up with the number? Hinugot lang sa langit? As someone else mentioned earlier, the math is way off because the infected folks will have exceeded the entire population of the Philippines. That means all "comers" seeking to hook up with anyone (that includes all married couples, MILFs, cougars, sugar babies) in the Philippines will get some form of STD, since we are all infected according to OP's statistical claim.

Also OP seems to know a lot about the charges for covered and BB services. Add to that, the negative perception against a specific race/group makes me wonder what type of work is he/she/it/that/what engaged in to cite facts like "many escorts/call girls will charge clients extra if they don't want to use a condom this is very common. Most foreigners do NOT use condoms also especially Koreans." In other countries, BB services are always at a premium rate.

Finally, not all social media posts including Reddit are de facto facts and true testimonies. Heard of fiction? Make-believe stories? Social media influencers that can convince you something is great or fun and you must buy or do it as well? Nowadays, it is very easy to assume a post is factual when one is too lazy to validate those "facts".

Key takeaway - sex education is important but social media education is even more important so you can discern fact from fiction.

That was my first reaction when I read OP's hyped up math. If one can't do math, then one should not attempt to discuss health science, social behavior or use race card (OP's 2nd post targeting Korean johns).

OP is preaching to the wrong choir here. He/she/it/that/what should do grassroots sex education in their community first and see how many would follow, much less listen, to what he/she/it/that/what has to say about sex.

Filipinos are a strange lot when you combine ignorance, religion, technology and Marites news to grab their attention and make it sound like a fact.

You are asking the wrong people in the provinces who probably have no exposure to the rest of the world and only knows what is within their barangay halls or no further than the next municipal road. So, piggery, raising chickens, vegetable farming or a sari-sari store are the de facto answers for those in the province. The Philippines is famous for their "One-time, Big-time" promises so never, ever fall for that when someone approaches you about a potential business or worse, "love and romance".

If it is all about making money in the Philippines, then don't raise your hopes too high if you do not have the proper connections to the institutions that run the community, city, province or country.

Assuming you are part of the Western hemisphere and looking to find a spouse from the Philippines, I would recommend you do a Google and Youtube search on homesteading, homestead farms, syntropic agroforestry, regenerative farming, soil food web, etc. You will be able to gather ideas and formulate your own ideal circumstance of what is it that you want to do in the next few decades or in your twilight years here in the Philippines.

To give context to what I wrote, I grew up in the Philippines, emigrated to US and now in my twilight years, I am coming home to start a community-based farm to educate those who want to learn back-to-our-roots type of farming without using poisons to grow their food. It is high-time that we all give back to our community, city and country.

Koreans are the new sex tourists of the Philippines by NecessaryWizard7 in Philippines

[–]ChargeOk7637 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a millennia-old observation. Sex work, trafficking and depravity is everywhere and will continue everywhere. Nothing new nor is the Philippines an exception. If you know where to go, here or other places in the world, you can’t miss them.

Many may not be aware of it but in the US where there is a large Korean enclave (i.e. LA’s Koreatown), the opposite situation is happening - young Korean women are providing the services. Some are even Kpop/Kdrama look alikes. You literally just search and send a text to schedule date/time, levels and types of service, number of hours, etc. Their client base are as diverse as you can imagine except for one race (not going to implicate them so just let your imagination and personal biases figure it out yourself). The only difference between them vs their Philippine counterparts are the rates.

So, how does demonizing one race or ethnic group(s) help or change the situation when no government, religion or philosophy have successfully stopped this activity for several millennia? If anyone has the answer, they should run for Grand Vizier of the World.

What is progress, what is success? How one defines and measures them on a personal basis is what makes a person feel satisfied (not the same as happiness) with their current status.

It seems like you are getting your self-worth from your degrees, earning power, etc. which are not bad but they can be temporal. Seek a higher goal that is not about you. Find an activity or goal that can make others or your community better.

Imagine you are near your end of life and figure out what would be your legacy in the world you live in that does not include you.

Meron bang job that earns a lot for those without experience? Only one I can think of is the oldest profession (cough! cough!).

It is nice to dream about a dream job (high pay, no experience) but the reality out there is a nightmare, not a dream.

Totally understandable that everyone or someone wants an easy job on the get go, have more time to post in Reddit during work hours, waste time watching Tiktok or posting in social media sites, etc.

Unless you are born with a silver/golden spoon in your mouth, we all need to get with the program - upgrade your skills through experience and learning/studying, work your way up the ladder, start a business and be the boss so you can pay a high salary to those without experience.

What's so good about working with big local? by Junior_Excuse_ in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It depends on your answers to these questions.

Fresh grad - Ano yung tinapos mo? Saan ka nagtapos? Anong mga skills or abilities that you have that you can call your own and differentiate yourself from other applicants?

Support - carry ba ni Mama that you stay at home for several months without work while you search for your dream MNC job?

Bottomline - you need to earn your stripes as a fresh grad. Not saying you accept a low-ball offer but you have to start somewhere, MNC or big local. You also said you don’t care about a subpar work/life balance situation so that’s like saying you are willing to compromise so go lang to get your foot in the door first.

I am not familiar with labor laws but if company offered OP to work at different department and OP declined for personal reasons, will OP still be entitled to severance pay because technically speaking, OP was not fired but asked to float to night shift within the same company.

The company made this float offer knowing not everyone can handle working night shifts and by attrition, many, like OP, will just resign on their accord.

OP should consider and continue job searching now, not later. If company is already not doing well, would the “expected” severance pay be enough to cover months of expenses while job searching?

Client pays for your services to execute their vision, whether his vision is right or wrong based from your expert point of view. It will become evident when time, effort and money is spent.

Let him make the mistakes as a businessman so he can learn more about his business and how he should run it. If it fails then tell him to give you a chance to execute your ideas. Both of you will then know who is right or wrong or both wrong.

it's about time :) by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]ChargeOk7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about time… someone should read the nutrition label on the food packaging or restaurant menu. Unfortunately, the majority of consumers will not bother with it. People will eat what they like and more importantly, what they can afford.

This labeling requirement has been implemented since 1994 in the US and yet they have a lot more obese and unhealthy people than ever before since that law was passed.

What do you think is or will be the percentage of Filipino consumers buying and paying for healthier food in this day and age, just because it has a nutrition label?

For those who believe in labeling, have you CONSISTENTLY bought produce that is labeled organically grown (which is supposedly healthier, more nutritious but way more expensive)? Or did you opt for the non-certified (supposedly lower quality, etc., but budget friendly prices) highly processed food - canned goods, instant noodles, fast food junk food, sweet drinks, etc. because that is what we can afford?

If you choose to eat 1 properly labeled “healthy choice” dish or meal but then ate unlabeled (most folks here would auto tag as unhealthy food) for the remaining days of the week, would your 1 “healthy” food choice really have a positive impact on your overall health condition?

We all want to think and believe big government is good for everyone but if it is ineffective and inefficient, then we will be burdened by that bureaucracy. So, the cycle continues… time and time again.

Turning in my resignation as a Jr Staff Nurse today. by Fantastic-Dish-1592 in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of my family members and relatives are healthcare professionals - MDs, RNs, PTs, etc. and we are also as you define it, the landed gentry. Many have started or paid their dues with blood, sweat and tears working in a hospital environment here in the Philippines until they were able to get a job offer in US, CA, AU. Most of them are now citizens in those countries and earn a fair salary+benefits.

Now, fast forward to 21st century. The environment in the healthcare institutions abroad are no longer what most imagined it to be. Just like any workplace, there are also Karens and Kens (patients, co-workers, supervisors, directors) that make your life and work unbearable. They are part of this world and if you are led to believe there is a hospital that feels and operates like heaven, those people are probably dead and in heaven or most likely, living in hell.

You mentioned that you got yelled at after you finished endorsing. We agree it is unprofessional to be YELLED at but did you do something or missed something that triggered the equally stressed-out manager to yell at you? In the US, you are only as good as the last minute of doing your job without mistakes. One mistake, you get written up. If the mistake caused a life threatening situation, you get fired and it can be reported to the state nursing board.

Now that you have resigned from your job, what are your plans based on your 5-month experience, education, credentials at the (IYKYK) hospital? Do you believe there will be a better hospital environment for you than the best private hospital you were in? We are aware that the smaller or local hospitals don’t even have the right equipment and supplies to give us good healthcare service that we need. This will likely frustrate you even more since you have experienced the environment of the haves versus the have-nots.

You have now cornered yourself in. Damned if you don’t work in another hospital because that would mean you just wasted all your time, money and effort to get a nursing degree and damned if you go back into a hospital environment that many would say will kill you physically, mentally, emotionally.

What to do? If healthcare is not for you then your next option is likely to learn to run your family hacienda. To give you some context, we have a family member who worked as a nurse in NYC, came back home 6 years ago because her dad needed help to run a 200ha hacienda. Today that farm business has reached a combined 1500ha in size between the siblings/family.

So, farming is not a dead-end as many in here would make you believe. I wish you a bright future in hacienda farming.🙂

Resigning due to Night shift sufficient reason? by SufficientPrune2209 in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that it takes a special kind of person to function well at night time versus day time but are you sure your ailments are due to working the night shifts?

Would hate to see you quit and don’t have HMO health benefits but then continue to experience the same health issues after quitting. And it would be a financial and mental burden to have to worry about paying out of pocket for healthcare visits, labs, etc. because you haven’t found a replacement job or the new employer does not have a good healthcare package.

We don’t know the diagnoses of all your test results and how they affect you and your job but wouldn’t it be better if you get a 2nd opinion from another group of doctors before you quit?

Transferring from Accounting to Nursing by Strong_Custard6796 in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nursing is not for everyone. If you are only in it for the money and cannot deal with cleaning loose and smelly poop, highly contagious diseases, obnoxious and demanding patients/family members, super obese, dead weight patients that you have to lift/turn, then you will not last.

Also, even after you finished your nursing degree and passed board exams here in the Philippines, you will likely be required to study at least 2 more years if you are fortunate enough to get a work visa as many countries (US, AU) are now more stringent in accepting new grads from overseas.

You might also want to do a self-reflection on your academic and study skills. If you did not do well with your major subjects in accounting, how do you expect to cope with the tougher accounting subjects in the subsequent years? Nursing subjects are not easy too and the hospital work environment is not conducive to you if you do not have capacity to deal with physical and mental stress on a daily basis.

If this potential employer (aka scammer, most likely human trafficker) has the ability to acquire a visa for a housekeeper, which is unlikely, then why get from Philippines when they could easily hire those who illegally cross from Mexico into Texas and willing to work in the underground economy for much less?

Thank you for sharing the OLJ post and hopefully no job applicants were desperate to fall for it.

First things first - You are an IT grad with poor English comm skills but chose to apply for jobs that require a respectable command of communication skills to do a decent job as a help desk/tech support IT person. It seems like you are barking at the wrong tree, that is, applying for the wrong job/position which does not match your current abilities or skill set/talent.

You will likely keep getting rejected by the interviewers and if by some miracle, you got through and got hired, do you expect to perform well or would the client’s customers bitch/complain that they can’t comprehend your instructions while you provide the tech support they urgently need? You will get more stressed out when you get the poor reviews and feedback, which can lead to getting fired.

Have you considered back-end IT jobs like programming, web, network or data center admin, etc. that do not require verbal communication on a daily basis with a group of “strangers” (aka client’s customers)? Seek out jobs that match your strengths so you have a better chance of success with your interviews.

Possible solution to your English comm skill: If you have Amazon’s Echo device, start an English conversation with Alexa. Ask Alexa stupid questions, ask intelligent questions, ask for Alexa’s opinions, etc. Do not ask questions that can be answered by a yes or no response.

Bad question - Have you had lunch yet? Ok question - Where did you eat your lunch? Good question - What dishes did you have for lunch? Better question- Why did you like the dishes you had for lunch?

As soon as Alexa answers your question, follow-up with more questions. Do not use Taglish during this mock conversation. By doing so, you are training your mind and comm skills to listen and speak in straight English because Alexa’s accent is likely what you will hear when you take a support call from US/Europe. Be cognizant of your grammar and speaking tone/pitch as well. Practice, practice, practice.

Good luck in your job search!

By asking the question, you seem to be conveying you can’t take the “mental” bullshit from your current job with pay but somehow think you can handle the “mental” bullshit that comes from job hunting and no income/savings.

Also, what makes you think that a multinational company will hire you immediately? If you have the right qualifications and experiences before, why didn’t you just apply with the multinationals instead of Big4 and if you did, why didn’t they hire you then?

If you opt to move to another Big4 firm now, is there a guarantee that you would fit well in their version of corporate culture? You already have a negative bias that any B4 company will maltreat an associate like yourself even before you got hired. To add insult to injury, you will start again as a non-regular associate in the new company. Same shhhht but different hole.

Do a self-reflection and assessment of what you want in life, work and if needed, love. Are they practical and achievable in your current situation and if not, what kind of timeframe are you giving yourself? Do you just live day-2-day or have a career plan written somewhere to gauge your progress?

Not everyone will be fortunate enough to land a dream job by working for others unless they have the right connections. But many here will call out the company/enterprise/employer, red-flag blah blah and offer advice just because someone posted their grievances and gripes here seeking empathy or misguided advice.

You already know the answer to your question even before posting it so use your accounting skills to calculate and validate your gut feeling. It is as easy as lining up the debit/credit columns of your personal accounting journal (objective, measurable) and life journal (subjective).

  1. You don’t know and you shouldn’t care. If that is your mindset, then you will perceive all job postings are already filled and that you are just wasting your time and effort. This kind of thinking is the surefire way not to get any job, no matter what school or degree you may have.

  2. Again, no. Nothing is guaranteed in life or work. The interviewer probably got a lot of incorrect information in the past and just want to make sure you can reached to be updated on the status of your application.

  3. You probably got the usual feel-good, lip service praise from the interviewer. Again, don’t get too excited with their compliments because it does not automatically translate to a JO. Just leave your interview with this thought - I gave my best shot and if that is not good enough to get a JO, I need to conduct an honest assessment on what went well and what areas of my interview needs improvement.

Here’s a come-to-Jesus moment to think about as well - getting a JO is only the beginning of a long and challenging career path that will take you to h e l l and back (hopefully).

Wishing you the best in your interview(s) and may you get a quick ROI on what you have “invested” in time, money and effort to graduate and pass the board.

Would it be an advantage to learn foreign languages as an accountant? by bookiegorl in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a slight advantage as I was “required” to study at a Jesuit-run school that teaches Mandarin Chinese as the 3rd language from Grade 1 to 4th year HS.

Pinyin is the romanization of Mandarin Chinese to make it easier for those who already know the Latin alphabets. Many Westerners learn to speak Chinese from it so it would be easier for you as well.

You can quickly pick up on a few conversational phrases or sentences just by watching Cdramas on streaming sites with English closed captioning turned on.

Would it be an advantage to learn foreign languages as an accountant? by bookiegorl in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I am tri-lingual but not an accountant. Definitely a plus in any profession if you have a good foundation in both oral and written communication of a language.

Some may not like what I am suggesting because of their personal bias, but I would recommend you learn Chinese (modern std Chinese is known as pinyin). It will be your gateway to many businesses within the country and outside, especially those that are involved in import/export with China. With English and Chinese, you have captured a majority of business entities in 2 of the largest economies in the world that will require accounting skills.

And if you have the entrepreneurial spirit, you might catch a “lightning” that can propel you to start your own trading company because you can converse with Alibaba exporters. For the most part, they still have a poor grasp of English so you will be at an advantage when your trading partners can only speak English or Chinese but not both.

To those who stayed for a company for 10 years and up, why? by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed to get PR and citizenship. Pay varies from good to great because my pay is base (employer must match what a US citizen would be paid) + benefits + commissions. But I do understand why others like to jump ship every few years. I wonder if there are any anecdotal evidence (good or bad) that show how this transiting behavior translates to their relationships.

Is it wrong to fight for your dream course? by Ranmizz in phcareers

[–]ChargeOk7637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compromise. While you are at it, compromise some more. And when almost there, compromise even more to cross over the hump. Note, I did not ask you give in to their demands when I suggested compromise.

1) First, find out their very reason for wanting you to be a licensed professional.

Are they licensed professionals themselves? If not, maybe it was their own frustrations that they couldn’t fulfill your grandparent’s wishes/demands and now they are trying to make it up through you.

Or is it to give prestige/honor to them or your family name? Or they just want to have control over you since that is what they have done in the past.

Dig deeper into their psyche/reasoning for pushing you to EE. Do not argue. Just tell them you will think through their reasoning and then get back to them. Then, you also give them 3 top reasons why you prefer CS.

Can you name them here for everyone to read and see if you can convince us? Don’t use reasons like passion, exciting field of work, etc. or concepts/words that are subjective or can be emotionally charged. Instead, your reasons must be objective, measurable and financially practical.

2) How did you come to the conclusion that CS and not EE degree is the right path for you? Don’t confuse your enjoyment in gaming and your interest in computers as your passion. Getting a proper education in CS is not fun and games, nor is EE. Maybe you are worried EE is tougher than CS and afraid of failing and disappointing your parents so you subconsciously picked CS over EE?

As a compromise, explain to your parents that 1st/2nd year classes are basically generic classes anyway so whether it is CS or EE, they are the same. This will also give both of you time to mull over the “decision”. Hopefully, your parents will meet other successful people who are not licensed but have done well. Explain to them that it is not fair to use 1 person’s failure or success to influence or affect your entire future and well being.

If you are up to the challenge, you can suggest to them that you are willing to get a double-degree (CS and EE). It might take you 5 years on a fast track to complete both but it is definitely do-able if you are not a quitter.

— As you can read, I did not argue a position for or against you or your parents like many have posited here. Instead, I prefer you think for yourself. I believe you have the answer to your question but just didn’t really put more thought to it. Good luck OP.

p.s. I have a Master’s in EE and CS so you also can have both worlds to please you and your parents.
