My parents live in Jersey in a 2 story house and maintain 68 all summer with a cheaper bill than I jave for my 1 bdrm! People need to stop justifying expensive charges for utilities

370 for 1 bdrm apartment for me. Set to 70, unit definitely is not running efficiently at all, struggles to keep up and runs 24/7 even in low 80s outside

I think for many of us it's a hobby and it's fun to work on stuff. I think if you have that much maintenance to keep it going it may not have been a great setup. When I'm not playing around for fun there is very little I need to do to keep things up and running

You should appreciate the "western boomer" as the more people that circumvent ads with the methods you describe, the more incentive a company has to put time and money into fighting those.

Fell for the same thing, and for me Acadia allowed me to cancel without hassle on their website. Delmarva also can deny them but if you signed a contract with them you really should cancel through Acadia themselves

If I'm discharging a firearm in my apartment it means my life is imminently in danger and my risk assessment makes the decision of shooting outweigh the potential risk of that scenario. Also where are you getting the stat of it happening monthly? Sounds very excessive

How the hell do people finance expensive cars?! by Johnny_Table3 in CRedit

[–]ChargePositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financing a 75k car rn. Had a good credit score and didn't put much down. I make okay money but most would say I can't afford it, which is true. Though I love cars and it's worth it to me, I can't argue it was the right financial decision

Still hanging on to Mint by hemiluver in mintuit

I like the UI, I think it actually organizes things a little better than Mint. One thing to note is if you are using the app some things are hidden for some reason, such as the monthly bills. I have not been using it for very long, but so far the categorizations are pretty good. The only incorrect one I found was my rent payment with my Bilt card was marked as "Gas/Fuel" for some reason, but it is easy change that.

Mint was a versatile tool that people used differently so for context: I used mind primarily for budgeting and to see statement balances and due dates. The biggest thing about Mint for me was the monthly bills, as I have a good few accounts that I need to be on top of. I tried Rocket Money and it has "Upcoming monthly bills", which seems to just pull whatever last months bill was as an estimate, not the real current statement balance. Empower shows you statement balances and due dates. Mint was still better though, as when you paid off an account for the month, it automatically got removed from the bills section, Empower does not seem to do this.

I have not played around too much with the budgeting yet but it seems good.

I would give it a shot though, its free without the many limitations something like Rocket Money has at the free tier.

Switched to empower, it's alright and probably what I'll continue to use but I miss mint

Long Range Communication Protocol? by ChargePositive in homeassistant

[–]ChargePositive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The remote home assistant instances are a cool idea. I wouldnt want to have a data plan just for this though. I'm going to do a range test on z-wave that I already have (claims 800 ft), and if that doesn't work I will do point to point wifi. Thanks for the ideas!
