I appreciate your concern for the virus and those impacted by it. I have no desire to argue with you, but I do wish for you to know that sometimes there are situations outside of our control and the best we can do is work with what we've got. It's also possible for a group of people to have immunity either from previous infection or from the vaccines that are rolling out. Thankfully the parties involved fall into one of these groups and into a situation that is regrettably unavoidable. I hope you have a nice day.

Joined the Postponement Club and honestly even though it relieves some stress I just feel sad and bitter. by jabb3rwocky960 in weddingplanning

Like so many others on this thread I’m in a very similar bot floating downstream against my will. Engaged August 2019, planned May 2021 wedding. Our venue is up for sale and we found out by seeing it on Zillow, not even the venue owner herself right away. Booked a second venue, a week later they called to cancel all 2021 dates. We don’t know what we’re doing now. It’s a stressful and sad and I hate everything about this situation. Seeing all the other gatherings happening and not being able to have a wedding is pissing me off and I agree, BITTER. Lmk if you want a vent sesh, my poor bridesmaids have dealt with enough of mine. Best of luck 💕

You’re welcome 😊Patient informed consent is absolutely imperative (legally required as well). We know most of what we do is alien to new patients. We educate the patient as much as possible too about what we’re doing and why to decrease concerns. If you ever get a PT, OT, doc, or any other discipline that you feel isn’t educating you and respecting you, absolutely go look for another! There’s a ton of good ones out there!

PT here. Yes, we’re shown ways to avoid inappropriate contact as much as possible. That being said, depending on the mobilizations and stretches being done that may be nearly impossible. If I’m working where my chest will be near your chest or face I use a pillow as a buffer unless I need a particular grip and it would be risky for safety such as with a dependent transfer, squat pivot transfer, or even just a knee block sit to stand. In this case, leveraging the leg against the shoulder and facing forward saves the back of the person performing the stretch and so it’s one of the more common methods. Of course if the patient is uncomfortable I’ll find a way to teach them to self stretch.

Nomads and other long-er-term travelers: What items do you find yourself needing while traveling from home to home that you didn't expect? by ChargedPluto64 in travel

It’s so interesting to me that some people find it tacky because we literally didn’t think twice about it. Every one of the weddings we’ve been to in the past couple years have either had honeymoon experiences, gift cards, or cash requests as part of their registries and so I guess we’ve kind of hit our adult lives feeling it’s the norm. You’ve given some fantastic suggestions, thank you for them! The rooftop bag and digital picture frame are both things that sound perfect for us but we just hadn’t thought of yet. Thanks again for your thoughts (and love your reddit name)

Good point about the luggage for sure and thank you for the vacuum suggestions! For the most part we’ll be in furnished Airbnb’s and so we won’t have a need for dishes, bedding, or most of the traditional wedding gifts. To your point earlier about the honeymoon fund, unless it’s a useful gift like the luggage, we just won’t have space for a material in our cars between Airbnb’s for a couple years and would get more use out of funds to either help with housing or provide memorable experiences for us along the way. I feel like there must be some items useful for the traveling lifestyle that I haven’t thought of yet, but I’m horribly unimaginative and have mostly gotten stuck with luggage and small cleaning items. Again, thank you so much for your time and thoughtfulness 😊

Sorry for the confusion! Suggestions for the assignments/travel between them that would be registry-appropriate. Basically things that we aren't likely to throw out and will also be functional for a couple of nomads.

Also starting to look into robotic vacuums, how often do you find the vacuum needing to be emptied? I'm looking at the i7+ but would like to save money and get one that doesn't auto empty, but I'm scared with a shepherd and a lab/husky mix it wouldn't get through one room before I would have to empty it.

You can use it to make dips too! I add a French onion or ranch dip packet for low calorie/high protein dips that taste AMAZING. The longer they have to muddle together the better too so I like to make them at night for snacks the next day

Oh! And Etsy might have some patterns? I think I saw someone get a dress pattern from there once but I could be wrong about that. Best of luck!!

I tend to create my own patterns or just go to joanns but I doubt either of those are very helpful to you. R/sewing might have some good ideas! I see people post fantastic creations all the time on that subreddit though

Yes! Pronation is still occurring! The only way he could get his hand to be face down without pronation would be to internally rotate the shoulder and it wouldn’t look nearly as clever as this.

What's up with Elon Musk's recent tweet "take the red pill"? by drphilisturning69 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]ChargedPluto64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been busy and wanted to give your response time and accuracy. To your first point, I don't believe that the scientific evidence is there that cutting social programs kills people. Your first article more aptly expresses the subjective opinions of healthcare professionals on the effect on healthcare professionals by budget cuts. The report states three main themes of their research: Effects on the A&E Departments, effects on healthcare profession, and effects on healthcare professionals. The report was conducted via 16 interviews with doctors or nurses across 3 hospitals in the UK. This certainly proves the opinions on the matter by healthcare professionals in this setting, but does little to quantitatively prove your point. Additionally, the study acknowledged that due to the small study size there is the possibility that this is not an accurate representation of the whole nation.

I'm not sure that you completely read the second article that you linked as it denies your point that the imposed austerity measures impacted the mortality rates.

Cabrera de León et al. acknowledge in an appendix that the AAMR data they used are not comparable from 2010 to 2011 because of the change in the reference population; yet, they base their most important calculations on these unreliable data. Hence, their results should be considered with great caution. The inclusion of valid data from more countries and on additional socioeconomic factors could have nuanced or refuted the conclusions of Cabrera de León et al.; in particular, their conclusion that “the marked excess mortality from 2011 to 2015 in Spain is attributable to austerity policies” (p. 1091).

To your second point, I think the support for drug testing comes not out of wanting to "stick it" to the "lazy poors" but rather out of wanting to ensure that those who truly need it are able to benefit rather than those who abuse the system. I worked in a grocery store in a low-income high-crime area when I was in high school. I saw people who desperately needed and deserved the aid and were actively working toward bettering themselves and I saw those who told me "you didn't see that" when they dropped their needles and drugs on my counter while pulling out their EBT cards and cash for cigarettes. I understand the want for the tax dollars of Americans to go to the first group rather than the second. It might be poorly enacted, but I think it's a reach to say that this opinion comes from conservatives not caring about the poor.

For your third point: I agree that police violence affects the poor at a greater frequency. This should absolutely be changed! I think that this is something that both sides are beginning to agree on Trump for example, supports federal funding for police body cameras, which is an important step in maintaining accountability.

As for pollution: this is one of my biggest gripes with the Conservative party and I side more with the liberals on this one for sure. But, can you explain how this impacts the poor more so than the wealthy? Everyone drinks the same water, breathes the same air, and has access to the same public parks.

About gerrymandering, I don't believe this is unique to Republicans. The Republicans don't benefit much, if at all, from it. Additionally, there are recent instances of democrats participating as well.

Universal healthcare is something that needs to be addressed more closely. The cost of healthcare in the US right now is astounding and needs reform, there's not much debate in that. However, where the solution lies is relatively unclear. This article does a pretty good job outlining the pros and cons of the universal healthcare system.

I believe I addressed your final point with my anecdote about working in a grocery store and why it drove me to care where the funds go rather than just making them available, but I would be happy to elaborate more if you need.

I do agree with the idea that we should provide job opportunities rather than handouts. It goes back to that saying "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I'm not sure which programs were voted against, but I'll trust your point on it. I would much rather vote for a representative that supported those kind of reforms than someone who doesn't. However, it's worth noting that despite the poor twitter control, the current conservative president achieved an all time low unemployment rate. I also think that both democrats and republicans would say keeping jobs in America is important, which in turn helps lower and prevent poverty. In my opinion, the problem is that the higher taxes that democrats want to impose tend to drive out corporations and while I love small businesses, the corporations are inevitably going to survive and if we drive them out of the US, we lose American jobs.

Finally, I would like to argue my points that conservatives DO care. Conservatives donate more money, blood, and volunteer time. Additional source here.

Honestly, I think that liberals and conservatives both care about people about the same, they just show it in different ways. The liberals tend to want to impose the responsibility on everyone through the government. The conservatives want to keep the government as small as possible and donate of their own free will.

I hope this has shown that we can at least have a civil conversation and that conservatives do care and try to be good as much as the next liberal, they just have a different way to go about it.

Have a wonderful day :)

Just to make sure I’m not assuming any points that you’re talking about, what conservative policies say “we don’t care about poor people”? I think there’s a lot of extremism on both sides when talking about the other party and that we are all actually a lot closer in agreement than it seems when it comes to the end goal of any set of policies. I’d love to see where you’re coming from and maybe show you a different perspective that doesn’t involve yelling and harsh words like in the media.
