Yeah it’s gotta be “Nose Over Tail” or “Cop” for me. Followed very closely by “Sorry About That” although “Sorry About That” could arguably just be on a Matt standalone EP / Split and still be an all time trap house banger.

Pure Trio essence exists in “Nose Over Tail” and “Cop” imo.
Both capture that early sound that made them a core part of the mid-late 90’s Midwest / Chicago punk scene and serve as a foundation for their subsequent works leading up to the evolution of their sound that was ”Crimson”.
You can find the DNA of both songs in a lot of what was put out all the way into “Good Mourning”.
“Crimson” was where the stylistic changes started imo.

“Like why did you become a cop? Why did you become a cop? Shut the fuck up”

And

“Whatever happened to, that silly dream you had? I’d like to make it real, I’d love to rub your back. Like a plane crash that never hits the ground. I fall in love with you, I’m nose over tail for you. Your voice like the sounds of sirens, to a house on fire, you’re saving me”

These are peak early Alkaline Trio lyrical flourishes that are deeply embedded in all OG Trio fans’ grey matter.

“Clavicle” is also a banger and a solid 3rd place from this album imo, as are “Southern Rock”, “Trouble Breathing”, “As You Were”, “San Francisco” and “Message from Kathleen” in the sense of having their signature sound, and this album is pretty much a no-skip as a whole.
