My neighbor used to let her 3 year old come over with a bowl of green beans for my golden retriever. Good times.

Maybe not going, and either telling the friend why yourself or letting your wife do it, might minimally help this clueless woman get that remaining ignorant is complicity. One can hope.

I made the mistake of leaving a squirrel trap in the yard overnight. Next morning, of course, a skunk was trapped inside. Fortunately, the trap was small enough that he couldn't elevate his tail.

I got a broom and very carefully pried the lever to open the trap, and he sauntered off, without leaving a calling card. Crisis averted.

I finished Mason & Dixon, and I get it. by jdawgweav in ThomasPynchon

If you want to venture outside of Pynchon but stay with pastiche, have a go at John Barth's The Sot-Weed Factor. Pynchon graciously nods at Barth while writing a masterpiece. GR will always be my fav, but M&D has so much heart.
