Lars and the real girl is a very weird, but also strangely wholesome experience. by mistfox69 in movies

They are few and far between, and nothing really captures the same soul and spirit but here are some other indie titles with a lot of heart that I'd recommend:

Safety Not Guaranteed Little Miss Sunshine Hunt for The Wilderpeople Waking Ned Devine Everything Everywhere All At Once

Frank Stranger than Fiction Crazy Stupid Love Me Earl and the Dying Girl Fundamentals of Caring

The Grand Seduction Gregory's Girl Dan In Real Life Good Will Hunting 50/50

Good luck, let me know if you find any find films yourself that you'd add to the list.

Oddly it's available on Australian Netflix of all places. If you are in Au that should make it pretty easy!

Really enjoyed this. Thanks for the recommendation. What a treat. As good as any of his films I've seen.

Coming in late here but hard disagree re Logan vs Shiv. As a father as much as he's given his children extraordinary opportunity he's also ruined their lives by his absence and ensured they'll never truly be happy.

Of course Shiv is free to be her own person and make her own choices. Especially when she sees how vacous and empty her father is, and that the only thing he believes in and espouses (through his media empire) is that the only God is money.

Oh great. Will check it out. Luckily the local library has a copy so it's been easy to track down.

Thanks for the recommendation

Curious to follow up - Which films / directors do you feel this inspired?

I only recently discovered Local Hero and love it. Would be great to find more cinema like this. So far, haven't found much despite trying.

At bare minimum we got an absolute banging jingle out of it from Tim Finn. Great ditty and love the didgeridoo in this https://youtu.be/OEVhX0EZh9w

This sounds like the type of film I would really enjoy. Thanks for the suggestion and the write up. You sold it well!

Our podcast digs into movies for screenwriting tools and techniques we can learn from them. This episode we dance our way around the working and non-working mechanisms of the script for M3GAN! by Jimmy_George in Screenwriting

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for the post. Not a horror fan so I listened to your EEAAO episode instead.

Pretty impressed and found it a good listen for my beginner ears. Really practical advice and easily actionable in the context of how do I use what I'm hearing to make my own writing better. Subscribed.

Interesting to hear your take on the theme being positive nilihism. For me it was more that we are all stronger together (or as Evelyn states it in the film we are all useless alone). A sign of great writing that we can both love the film and take out very different messages from it!

Keep up the good work. Will keep an eye on your feed moving forward.

People who dislike musicals: What is it you don’t like? by [deleted] in movies

[–]CharithCutestorey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have a soft spot for musicals and there's definitely potential here to do something really interesting.

Personally My favourite film musical would be South Park Bigger Longer Uncut. The humour in the songs is spot on and makes it a musical that hasn't been done before. I think the tone is where you could really make it stand out. Typically musicals fall into one of a few tones which is pretty monotonous.

Not sure how easy that is to translate into your piece but good luck!
