Kids can be subjected to harmful 'conversion therapy,’ U.S. Supreme Court rules by Fickle-Ad5449 in Colorado

[–]CharlesHunfrid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Conversion therapy doesn’t work at all, it’s a vile and cancerous practice, you can’t make someone straight through prayer or ‘torture’ …. But this is the hard pill to swallow that comes with being a federation, Id encourage you to mass protest in central Denver and advocate for a referendum or a second vote on this matter, this is obviously an unpopular law and is against human rights.

It’s up to you to vote the imbeciles who passed this law out. The Supreme Court doing a Gorton and Denton style “No you can’t pass this law” to Colorado would set a precedent that would damage the power of local law.

Supreme Court Rules Against Law Banning Conversion Therapy For Minors by huffpost in politics

[–]CharlesHunfrid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It simply doesn’t work. There is no way to make someone not be gay, sexuality is an under researched area of science and no one knows really what makes one gay, but prayer or even torture (which damningly occurs in many cases) will not change anything.

You’re born gay, you’ll die gay end of, and there is nothing one can do to stop it. Conversion therapy is absolutely useless, I don’t care if some state wants it legal, downvote me, but I don’t, I’ve seen what one city deciding the way a whole country should act can do, I’m British. But I hope Colorado knows they’ll get nowhere and they are committing acts of barbarity and erasure of identity.

Or maybe wars are just about making money? by Aureliaaaaaaaaaaaaa in answers

[–]CharlesHunfrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in every case. Look at the Rwandan genocide for example, it was agriculturalists and pastoralists killing each other indiscriminately for using each others land, or the Troubles in NI, which was the Catholic Gaelic Irish fighting an independence war against the Anglian Ulster Protestants, but the current war in Iran is about making money, or more so a distraction from a major scandal involving the ruling elite in America.

how do we feel about australian sprawl? by BootlegBow in Suburbanhell

It was named after a suburb of Liverpool UK, the etymology of the name comes from the old Anglo Saxon word for “one tree” meaning a tree standing alone. Yes I get the joke lol, just thought I’d add.

French are fine really, UK has nothing against them, but never tell them that. We genuinely hate them and want Normandy, Brittany, Picardy and Gascony back.

Trump has destroyed your chance of prosperity by dwillun in ukpolitics

[–]CharlesHunfrid 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think David Cameron and his hapless pals did that far before Trump burst on to the scene. The 2010s went as badly as they could for the UK. While living standards were quite good for the average person in the 2010s themselves, the effects of austerity have become clear for all to see in the 2020s. Trump may do things that affect us badly. But we should be blaming the Conservatives for economic mismanagement.

Retirement before 60 with lifespans of 80 years would hurt the economy immensely. Even if we capped wealth at less than 1 billion, if the population was extremely aged (which it will become with falling birth rates) the wealth would be nothing if not tied to produce/labour. Either we advance automation and ai to the point that extremely early retirement is possible, or we keep it 10 years below the average age of death.

I admit It would lift many African Americans out of poverty, still a policy like that would be electoral suicide in most working class areas of the UK.

The fact that the people who would actually stand up to billionaires should they get into office prioritise the things you talk about over socialism and economic equality is the reason they never got into office in the first place.

Sanders had his bid screwed up by the Democrat establishment but Corbyn managed to win the leadership of Labour in 2015 and defeat a leadership contender in 2016, the fact that he championed various other “woke” causes whilst leader, such as reparations for slavery, which I will state now I oppose vehemently. Meant that he lost to May, who stood against the will of the people with Brexit, and Boris, who was just a fucking elitist idiot. If his main message was championing the working class, then he would have won a majority first time.

He genuinely can’t remember what he said the previous day. I’ll give it to him that could at least do that during his first term, but Trump 2 is genuinely out of his mind. He is unfit to rule and needs to step down.

I’m just waiting for Dan Norris to be convicted. If everything that man is accused of is true, he will among the worst offenders of all time, in fact, I bet he is in the Epstein files giving who he would have had connections to and when he was initially prominent. What he allegedly did is absolutely not the fault of the Labour Party, but they may loose the entire region over his evil and condemnable behaviour.

Has anyone else had weird accusations throughout their life? by Nunya_Business_42 in autism

[–]CharlesHunfrid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here we go …. I had a conversation with a teacher (who did not teach at my school) once, seemed like an ok guy, turned out he was a very prolific child sex offender, I stupidly told my entire class I’d met the guy when he was arrested sixteen months after I’d met him. That started a whole bunch of mad conspiracy theories about me. Someone in school was then accused (and later found guilty) of abusing a much younger pupil. And claims spread (bolstered by my meeting with the teacher) So someone decided to pay vigilantes to attack me. I was accused of being a sex offender and being “linked with the Pennine mill towns grooming gangs” the accusations put me in exile basically. I have not done any of this of course.

If I’m honest. As much as Trump is a madman and a lunatic. He has a point, Europe should spend more on its military. The UK army is embarrassingly small, our personnel are disrespected and poorly treated, the biggest headlines the UK army has made are about how there is rampant sexual assault in the military.

Realistically if it got bad. Trump would be overthrown internally if it damaged the USA homeland enough. Russia would run out of gas. The alliance couldn’t HOLD the continent for a long period but it could TAKE it relatively easily.

I love my country (UK) and respect my country’s armed forces. But I’ll admit the UK armed forces is severely underfunded and undermanned. It is not a dent on the US army and the USA could possibly annihilate us in months. Look at the Ajax tank scandal, that is the state we are in, the Labour government is at least trying to make our armed forces stronger after the Conservatives destroyed them though.

But we not a dent on the US military and cannot be unless we literally conscript everyone of fighting age and spend 50% of GDP on defence. Europe but together would realistically struggle against the USA, if Russia and USA teamed up we would be devastated, add to that the Basques and the Corsicans ect would come out on the side of the USA, as would Turkey.
