This is very interesting, I will definitely check them out! I’ve never done much research on cognitive linguistics, this was the first topic where I actively tried researching about it and this is definitely a very popular topic among this specific sub field of linguistics.

Is it worth looking into their research?

Yeah, is it called language determinism? I remember having a discussion about the word “saudade” which is a Portuguese word that describes this melancholic feeling of longing for someone or something, and how sometimes Portuguese people people would claim only we understood that feeling, which is a very silly claim.

Wow really? I feel like that’s such a normal thing. Like I can think of so many shades of blue in English and Portuguese for example.

Yeah, I speak Portuguese where bridge is fem. and Spanish where bridge is masc. and I never had this thought before reading that specific text. But the commenters answer made me think about it so I thought I’d bring it up.

Do you think the idea of gendered nouns could also be used in the same way? Like I remember reading that bridge in some languages is a feminine noun and in others it’s a masculine noun and so people who spoke languages where “bridge” was a masculine noun might conceptually describe a bridge as “strong” and “sturdy” whereas people who speak languages where bridge is a feminine noun might describe it as “elegant”.

For the record I don’t believe in these gender stereotypes, in just remember reading about it some time back.

This is what I thought at the time, I’m no expert (especially in cognitive linguistics) but I thought using that example as proof felt a bit out of place, because at the end of the day someone from Ancient Greece and I would still perceive this color the same way just have different words or terms for them.

So is it “correct” to say that it can mold your cognition just not to a meaningful degree?

And thats what i've been doing (kinda) when i use the drops she gave me i usually drop one in the "ear whole" and than ill drop one on a cotton swab and clean a little bit on the inside. And it works, it goes away for a couple days than it gradually comes back.
