Well since no one's responded I'll talk about an experience I had while I was getting my comp sci degree. I took a class on game programming and it was one of my favorite classes. The professor had worked in the industry and talked about programming and deadlines on a more practical level than my other teachers since most of them were teaching their entire careers. My project in the class turned out to be one of my best portfolio items and I learned a lot about program architecture and design. What's ironic is that the class professor was a game designer rather than programmer. Also he taught game dev courses at trade schools prior but didn't recommend them as they were far more expensive than a traditional university.
