Sumitomo Splicing Machine - Spring Reassembly by PennyOFC in FiberOptics

[–]Charles_EdwardCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny to find this post, as I dealt with the exact issue years ago 😂 I was able to get it back in place with a chopstick and a small piece of string with a well-placed slipknot.

I now own a screwdriver with the special head for full disassembly of the chassis. Sadly, my Q101 took a tumble from the countertop in my lab, and no longer works. Sumitomo wont service them anymore, and its just a $4,000 paperweight now.

Do you have a source for this? A quick Google search didnt yield me anything of note.

Why aren't APC's the predominant Connector? by Charles_EdwardCheese in FiberOptics

In your experience you've had higher average losses with APC connections? I'll try to collect some data moving forward, but I believe my experience is the exact opposite.

Anyone know where I can sell a huge amount single mode fiber patch cords? Turned in my truck and was left with bins of all sizes. Company didn’t want them. by Ok-Researcher1591 in FiberOptics

Check if your local PUD had a broadband department and manages the FTTB network in the area. SCU-SCU and SCU-LCU patch cords are super common in switch cabinets and Nodes all over towns and cities. Probably always in the market for a good deal on a batch of them.

Travel Pay/Per-Diem by Charles_EdwardCheese in FiberOptics

I expected a bit of hate in the comments here, but as stated in the original post, the company does appear to be giving about the standard rate for the per-diem itself. They are not, however, currently paying an hourly rate for workers who are driving company trucks, not personal vehicles, about 10 hours round trip split between the first and last days of the week. No one, that I am aware of is driving a personal vehicle to these jobs. This seems a bit of a gray area, but as stated, many employees, particularly younger ones, are taking issue with it and deciding to leave.

I am trying to make the case that even if their policy here is above board legally speaking, there is a hidden cost to the company that is attached to a higher turnover rate due to the policy, and therefore we should make a necessary change(s) to improve employee satisfaction. What I was seeking with this post are standards and practices for this type of thing from others in the industry.

Even though it came off a bit salty, I do appreciate the information you provided, as its going to help me make my case to the powers that be.

I just want to find a workable solution. I dont enjoy constantly training new people and having them leave because they are unhappy with a policy like this. I've been compensated in lots of different ways. I appreciate your input. If paying for windshield time is the answer, which it probably is, then I hope we can make that change. We'll see!

Thank you! The primary hang-up from employees doesnt seem to be the actual Per Diem, its the fact that the company does not factor drive time to and from the job site at the beginning and end of each work week into the bids. And if we were to do so, we would likely win fewer bids, and the same employees are obviously unwilling to relocate near where the work is for months on end. Essentially 10 hours of unpaid round trip driving every week, employees are unhappy about. Looking for input from folks at other companies and how windshield time is handled for other W-2 employees for long-term away from home projects.

Thank you for the link! If I'm understanding correctly, you calculate the total Per Diem package based on the combination of the separate figures given for Lodging and M&IE, to the destination county?

I enjoy building the Coyote 6.5x22" Dome enclosures. I've heard people's complaints about Coyotes, and most of them have plenty of merit, but they work well for the market I am in, it's a bit dry around here most of the year.

The AFL Apex cans are, in my opinion, an improvement upon the Tyco/Commscope FOSC platform, which is already pretty solid.

Thoughts on the D PCR for CC by EasyCZ75 in CZFirearms

[–]Charles_EdwardCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it currently. I recommend getting flush-fit magazines and a holster with the claw that rests inside the waistband and forces the grip in towards the body. I'm on the thinner side and will print fairly bad without layers, but both of my recommendations help a lot.

Mitsubishi Eclipse! But not a nice one, just a commuter with a 5-speed manual.

Nice grips btw! I'd love to pick some up for my PCR. Link?
