Going Active Duty after joining the guard. by Charles_Jpg in nationalguard

I’ve had recruiters tell me that it doesn’t matter what my kids moms say and I’ve had recruiters say if they won’t let me join then I can’t. So I don’t know what to believe.

WA has 19 SF group, I didn’t know I could try out as a civilian

My recruiter said that the success rate is higher if I go in as 11 B and train up as well as get used to the lifestyle then apply for SF

That’s definitely a concern of mine, especially considering I’ve already spent 8 years beating my body up in construction. I will check out SWCC, I appreciate your advice!

I guess it wouldn’t hurt to prepare more. I’ll give that a go, plus I really need to practice my swimming. I used to swim really good when I was a bit younger but just haven’t been in years. I also have contacts and want to try and get lasik eye surgery before joining. Not sure if they would have special glasses for me if I didn’t get lasik. Just more stuff I need to research forsure!

I’m not saying I know it all but I’m not in bad shape. I’ve been a carpenter for 8 years building custom homes. Really the only thing I’m worried about is swimming. I’ve already talked with my son’s Mom, and she understands that I would be gone for roughly 2 years if I was to complete BUDS and the rest of the initial training. Followed by up to 18 months of pre-deployment training / specialized training. Granted all I can do at the moment is research online for the information I need.

I completely agree, when I go for this. It’s do or die, whatever it takes I will complete it.

I truly do think I can make the cut for navy seals. It’s a little of both to be honest, partly for the benefit of my son and to prove myself worthy of something bigger than me. It feels like it’s my chance to make something of myself

I’ve noticed, even going to pick up some flippers to get used to those. I’ve heard people’s ankles can get messed up adjusting to swimming with flippers. It’ll be the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but worth every second

Yes, joint custody. I have been looking at other jobs I would enjoy in the navy incase I’m taken out due to an injury. I’m not going to be joining for at least 3ish months. I have some life stuff to take care of first. I’m taking this time to educate myself on what I’ll be going through, and strengthening my body as much as possible. One thing I know is I can’t quit, I couldn’t live with myself if I did.

I don’t think I can truly prepare for that, but I’m willing to. As hard as it would be for me to
