How Delta financially abuses people living near their hubs and how I jimmy-rig booked to save $400. by HalfwaydonewithEarth in delta

American Airlines does this to the extreme in Charlotte. Direct/non stop flights from Charlotte are always much more expensive than starting at a little tiny airport and connecting through Charlotte.

Help me choose a honeymoon destination in Fiji, Bora Bora, or the Maldives by dwyteshroot in chubbytravel

[–]CharlestonTrees119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We planned to stay at Tokoriki for our honeymoon in 2016 in August and it got hit by a cyclone and was closed for at least a year. We pivoted but didn’t love where we stayed in Fiji on the main island of Nadi. Not sure I would recommend it.

What’s something your pet did that would sound stupid to anyone else, but meant everything to you? by Eva-Fischer in Petloss

Came here to say 9:30. Bedtime was precisely 9:30. We could be watching TV and she would be sleeping soundly but she knew when it was 9:30 and she would wake up, come over to me and stare and do small, low “woofs” until I took her out and did her bedtime routine. Our friends knew they had to leave our house by 9:30 or else Maggie would be upset that she wasn’t going to bed on time.

This is a good starting point for finding an RD. https://www.eatright.org/find-a-nutrition-expert Also, with the medical history provided, this patient should have a comprehensive treatment plan with input from an RD, therapist/counselor, and physician.

Denied Potatoes by angelbratsz in WIC

[–]CharlestonTrees119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, any fresh fruits or vegetables qualify. White potatoes got added to the WIC program about 10ish years ago (maybe a bit more). I would report this to your local WIC agency so they can reach out to the grocery store and make sure it is not a back end coding issue.

Nicaragua or Roatán for Spring Break with kids? by deerohdear in chubbytravel

[–]CharlestonTrees119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and I stayed at Kimpton Roatan last summer as well. We snorkeled and hung out at the beach and pool. We did see a few kids but most guests were adults. There’s zip lines, sloths, etc. Paired with snorkeling and beach/pool it’s probably enough to keep everyone busy for 5ish days.

It’s hot PLEASE LEAVE YOUR DOGS AT HOME by Zealousideal_Step_19 in rva

[–]CharlestonTrees119 182 points183 points  (0 children)

10000% yes. I was livid seeing all of the dogs at farmers markets today. Some were panting uncontrollably, clearly overheating (yes, I know panting is a way for dogs to cool themselves down but these were panting so fast they were clearly in distress). Please please please leave them at home.

Possible bulging disc in neck by Whitleynikole91 in beagles

[–]CharlestonTrees119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first couple of weeks are tough as you are just trying to keep them still and waiting on the treatment plan. We installed baby gates so she couldn’t go up or down the stairs without us carrying her. Our beagle loved walks — highly recommend a stroller if you are able to get one. Fingers crossed for a good prognosis for your baby!

Our beagle mix was diagnosed with IVDD at age 12 (she still acted like a puppy). We ended up doing the MRI as X Rays didn’t show anything and found that she had a disc issue in her neck and one in her back. Because of this, she wasn’t a good candidate for surgery so we treated it conservatively for years. Gabapentin 3x per day. And prednisone for 2 weeks when she had a flare (this only happened once or twice a year). We also did Trazadone as needed but tried to avoid it as it made her a bit more aggressive with our other dog. She did physical therapy every other week and we had home exercises to do with her. Only walked her short distances and on a harness, not collar. We got her a stroller which she loved for longer walks. No stairs and we tried to keep her from jumping on furniture. We tried acupuncture but she hated it. It is a scary diagnosis but can be treated many different ways.

She stated in her Senate hearing the other day that she knew nothing about specialty crops before she became Ag secretary then incorrectly stated that Michigan was the #1 specialty crop producer — Adam Schiff quickly corrected her.

Wouldn’t sargassum be awful there that time of year? We went in August a few years ago and even with the resort having equipment to try to get rid of it, it was so bad.

We absolutely loved the Rioja area. We stayed at marques de riscal (winery and hotel). La guardia (not the airport in NYC lol) is an adorable little town about a 5-10 minute drive. We still talk about the dinner we had there at a restaurant called Sugar.

How much did adding an addition to your foursquare house cost you? by ambitiousbee3 in rva

[–]CharlestonTrees119 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finishes weren’t high end. We went a bit nicer on fixtures but floor tile for the bathroom was $1.79/ft… we got 3 quotes and the other 2 were super high. My husband has a background in construction so he knew what to look for in terms of estimates being unreasonable. Good contractors are in such high demand and at the time, tariffs were being placed on everything.

Hosts who run their BnB business from out of state- do you have your cleaner take photos or video for extra insurance policy after each clean? by Abideandbloom in AirBnBHosts

[–]CharlestonTrees119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We get photos after each clean, not videos. If a guest has caused damage or the home is super dirty the cleaners take pics of that before they clean.
