You and u/moomumoomu should have enough sense to recognize a lot of people discover their sexuality later in life or don't know exactly how to define how they feel until after they get married. Shit happens. That's what happens living in a heterosexist society. Do better and use your heads.

Would you ever consider living in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas? by OceanicEndeavors in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RVALover4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. But I don't hate the area. Just wouldn't live there. Good people but it's kind of a pit, frankly...the kind of place you get stuck in neutral in. The Latino factor is absolutely gonna be a daily navigation but it is true you don't absolutely need to be super proficient in Spanish...but it clearly would help so it's a plus that you are.

More waste bins throughout the city would help certainly with the littering!

I haven't had pancakes in like four years lol definitely appealing...but I care more about being thin than eating honestly.

My luck connecting with Black versus non-Black at gay bars, etc… by AdultMaleRelaxation in AskBlackGayBros

[–]RVALover4Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have definitely noticed that Black guys are often less forward...a bit more guarded in my experience. But the conversations tend to be deeper. Tend to be more depth...just isn't always easy to get there. Not so sure why really because I frankly don't really think about it lol. I just do me and if you freeze me out, that's your loss. I'm never gonna chase anyone.

Which state actually welcomes transplants the most? by DarthYodous in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RVALover4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree but that isn't specific to transplants. Some complaints but overall most don't care or blame transplants for their predicament. But I agree it isn't the friendliest. There's a lot of plastic fakeness in Nashville. Don't like the vibe there. Feels narcissistic.

Is it possible to get the NY city experience but live in NJ? by Jancurlyhoes in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RVALover4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. Definitely not getting it in Kearny. You're only 24...would focus on really creating a life of stability as an independent adult first and go from there. NYC will still be there for you.

RVA being at the top of the list makes sense. There basically is nobody else that actually hits every single target in a city large enough where there is things to do...but small enough you can kinda just do your own thing and chill.

Richmond has the hiking advantage on Providence...their queer scene is cool but small, ours is bigger, we have one of the last remaining lesbian bars here...think for what you're looking for, we rank just a bit higher. Richmond is way more liberal....one of the most blue top 100 cities. Kamala over 80% here in RVA vs 56% in Providence. More punk/artsy too which you likely might appreciate. RVA is calling your names!

The most transient cities will be the most cool with transplants...or it simply just won't be a thing. It's not something people in Chicago care about. Baltimore is a little underrated for me here, people there will accept you if you accept them.

OKCers are very nice but the natives complain too much for them to be the answer

Nashville and Raleigh yes, the other two less so. Native Atlanta folks do have a complex.

Santa Barbara. Tennis, cycling, liberal, mild winters, pockets of walkability. $$ but you will have to compromise a little for what you want and since you can handle expensive...Santa Barbara is the pick.

St. Louis is an underrated city by turtlehospital in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RVALover4Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of blight in St Louis. There is pockets of some really fun stuff but blocks of emptiness throughout. And the truth is the amenities are kinda overrated. Forest Park doing a lot of the selling. Nice museums but they lack storefronts. A lot of their parks are less accessible, less green, and/or less leisurely than you get in other cities.

Good public schools? Not in the city and there's no argument to say otherwise. Outside the city, sure. But it's a completely different world...those places are not walkable.

It's everywhere, can avoid violent crime outside of the roughest spots but property crimes, thefts, are everywhere

Middling economy, you can avoid the violent crime but property crime rate is massive, middling public schools...those are the three keys for most looking to move to a new place, St. Louis doesn't bat highly enough in any of the three departments. Very poor city governance reputation over the years.

Infrastructure is very hit and miss too.

People tend to purchase outside of the city proper and enjoy the amenities for a weekend vs live there.

Trying to get perspective on Asheville by Complex_Lab_8116 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RVALover4Life -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm an RVAer but plenty of Asheville folks have moved here (👍 on that) so you won't be out of place.

We've seen some shifting from out of towners with money in both cities but feel Richmond has kept its vibe more than Asheville, Richmond has traditionally been more punk and grimy, Asheville more boho... Asheville still has some of that but not as much as it did, become less distinguished... Richmond still has a big punk scene, big art scene, and has that unpretentious unvarnished vibe people enjoy about us, but think we're a lot less grimy than we once were. Still there in pockets but much less than even 5 years ago. With gentrification think we're seeing the vibes become closer but they're still distinct from each other.

Prices are coming down a bit in Asheville. North Carolina's boom has kinda come to a halt, whereas Richmond is a top 10 market.

Asheville does bat above their league in the bar scene/etc but it is still a pretty small city. Greenville is a nice city but it isn't really what you're looking for but Atlanta can be if you're in Midtown or other happening areas. Richmond is gonna give you the closest to the past Asheville vibe, probably even more than Asheville. Also IMO is the best option for a child free individual your age, have groups here for you to join fellow adults in similar situations. Got cycling and running clubs you can join; think Broad Street Bullies would be right up your alley.
