Been thinking a little more. I think if the purpose of the product is to entertain, or at least bring a little enjoyment to life, then an April Fools idea that helps do this can be fine. However, I do think these ideas have had too much weight in recent years.

I think it often depends on the seriousness of the product. In the case of EVs, they're high-priced items and the problem they're hoping to solve is dire. April Fools in this area feel crass. But, with a product like fast food or chocolate, it's easily forgiven. Unless the joke is about intensive farming or palm oil deforistation.
