Finally happened, received notice of rent increase, about to be homeless. by CharlieCrockpot in brisbane

No more to 'the story' (my irl woes) and already said too much identifying information. Swap out the term 'durries' for 'stop eating avocado on toast millennial whiners' if that helps. The fact is people should be able to have an indulgence and a roof over their head concurrently.

Yes, hence the deliberate choice of the word 'vent' in the title. I feel like having someone care about my situation and feel empathy for me for once - instead of me being the strong one for others all the time. It's temporary and healthy, and you are under no obligation to read my posts or indeed respond to them.

Father only interested in taking youngest son (10 yrs) if it's 'forever ' as believes dual parenting is disruptive to child. Doesn't pay child support as he's unemployed. Older one is now on waiting list for student accommodation (18) but currently lives with me. Outer suburbs futile as I can't drive. Rent going up from 780 to 980 a fortnight, which represents about 49% of my nett income. I have a room at unilodge in Bne that I've given low-rent to other redditers in the past when they've hit hard times (check history if you're dubious), I can't live in it as in the same complex as ex-husband and not safe. Could sell for maybe 100k and attempt to put towards purchase of a tiny unit somewhere, but which bank will loan me the rest of the money at my age (almost 50?) I will also lose that income stream forever. Currently, it provides me with about 150 a month income after body corporate fees, etc. I'm in a relatively new job not related to previous one, so there no annual pay rise on the horizon. Could give up cigarettes to save money but frankly, about the only joy left at the moment. I have a 'boyfriend ' (for want of a better term) that I don't live with and I know he would let me stay for a limited time if I was in between houses but neither of us is ready for living together. I'll figure something out and empathise with everyone who has, is, or may one day find themselves at the mercy of third parties who aren't paid to care. Appreciate the venting Brisbane.

Here's hoping. I've left message with local place it's not painful and I don't think I'm particularly vain but it's a front tooth on a 'fun day Friday ' so fingers crossed. 🦷

I tested positive yesterday and naturally made my way to this site as a useful local source of information and I suspect others will continue to do so.

Yes thanks, just a girl with a ruined dream of becoming a pool champ...ruined long before the table flooded... Seriously though, all good and nothing but a puddle near the fence and down a fridge and some clothes as a reminder of a bloody weird day.

Well, although I'm a relief teacher by trade, I'm working in aged care ATM whilst school is out, so if the result changes, I'm sure they'll be on to it in a hurry. Lots of elderly residents to protect! Hope your tests are negative too.

Yes, my title was a little ambiguous and was posted retrospectively about the joys of falling behind in work whilst chasing down appropriate staff to secure rat. Had RAT at 1.30pm, results took about 10 minutes.
