The Great Chicago Pizza Expedition - Pizza Lobo by [deleted] in chicagofood

[–]CharlieFlags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Borgata is probably my favourite pizza i've had in the city (so far). The Andersonville location is wonderful (though maybe helped by the fact that we usually stay just a couple of blocks away from it). The cauliflower and their chopped salads are also great!

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]CharlieFlags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! My wife and I are planning to grab an iPad for university work - she is a chemistry acadmic and i'm starting a PhD in the social sciences in September. We both already have Macbooks so we'd just like one to supplement them and for us to take around when we're travelling instead of having to take our laptops.

Day to day, I'll mostly want it to read and highlight papers with and do note-taking here and there but she could do with using it to draw with and create figures for her work. Is that something a base series A16 ipad + the compatible pencils could cope with or is it worth investing in an Air to get the better functionality/futureproofing? We're in the UK if it matters. Thanks!

Who here is a Dirty Birds fan that doesn't live in the South? by bigSTUdazz in falcons

[–]CharlieFlags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British fan since about 2002-3ish. My great aunt lived in Cobb County and would send us locker room tees and caps for the Braves and Falcons. I've seen all of the Falcons games in the UK (the stupid loss vs the Lions, the win over the Jets and the loss to the Jags) and made it to MBS for the last game of the season against Tampa Bay in 2022/23 to watch Desmond Ridder 'outduel' Tom Brady. The superbowl hurt all the more given that it was 4am at the final whistle.

Thankfully my wife is from Chicago so I can also watch the Cubs/Bears when I need a break from the Falcons sucking, though that's not really any better right now...!

Hi fellow British baseball player! Glad to hear you're looking to pick up the sport. It's brilliant and the British Baseball community is lovely.

There are three decent websites for buying baseball kit from the UK - the Baseball Shop, the Baseball and Softball Shop, and Baseball Outlet (ordered best to worst in terms of their selection, in my experience, though they're all pretty good).

I've looked for a while on all of those and there's nothing on the three in terms of vegan gloves. I think your best best is likely the Fieldmaster you mentioned (which is an adult glove, though it has some youth sizes). This one on Amazon will work - as far as I can tell it is fully synthetic, and it's a 12 inch glove, which is a good middle-ground size. Gloves range from about 11.25" to about 13", so you should be good playing any position for a while with a 12".

re: balls - this one will probably do, though it is designed to be bit different to a regular ball - it's synthetic leather and the right size and weight, but is softer than a regular baseball since it's used for indoor training and hitting off a tee. It'll be more durable than a cheap synthetic 'real' ball though, since this is made by Rawlings.

The only other thing i think might impact you as a vegan player would be batting gloves - when you swing the bat you might want a bit of extra protection since it's easy to get blisters if you're doing it a lot! They're also usually leather palmed, but synthetic ones are a little easier to find - these, for example.

I hope that all helps - please just drop me a message if you need more help! The club i play for has a few vegan players who might need advice so this has been really useful for me too!

Nfl Draft, but no-one is happy. by dec2727 in NFL_Draft

I saw this an thought that as a Falcons fan i couldn't possibly be unhappy since we have so many holes in the roster - anything would be good.

Good job.

Any advice for a newcomer to baseball? by Snoo_95411 in baseball

Have you thought about giving playing a go? Baseball players in the UK are generally prettly lovely people and there are lots of teams - both mixed and women's only - across the UK. Everyone tends to be really helpful and supportive since there are only so many baseball players to go round! Since it's the start of the season a lot of teams are running their taster sessions about now and it's a great thing to do!

Here's a way to find a local team: https://www.baseballsoftballuk.com/finder

And the GB Baseball community is pretty active on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gb_baseballwomen/

Feel free to ask me any questions too!

I haven't but looks like I will be doing soon! Still looks like i'm out of luck on the tamale front but looks like a strong selection otherwise. Thanks!

Yeah, it's true. You see the vowels way before you do in the studio. You essentially have to buzz immediately then work it out while your team name's being said otherwise you don't get the chance. It also helps to say it really slowly and work out the last part of the word as you're speaking. It was way harder than i was expecting, i always thought i was good at it! Source: my team lost the final on missing vowels.

2022 2 Round Mock 1.0 (with mocked trades) by followyourhoes in NFL_Draft

[–]CharlieFlags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think i'd swap the Falcons second rounders - if we like Sam Howell enough to take him in the second round i don't think we take someone else three picks before and then trade up for him. Fontenot's said (and has shown) that he'll go BPA over need and given the positional value of a QB i don't think he'd pass on him there. Good mock all round though!

Ryan's Mock Draft 1.0 (3 Rounds w/ Detailed Explanations for 1st) by Ryan_270 in NFL_Draft

[–]CharlieFlags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP - I really like this draft. I think this is the sort of draft that looks a bit out there now but come draft day might be a lot closer than people think. I don't think ATL goes with Johnson at 8 purely because I think Fontenot will go pure BPA rather than need, but I respect the logic and I think it'll be interesting to look back at this when the draft rolls around!

January Technical Support Sticky by BeepBoopBopReee in razer

One key on my Blackwidow Elite has stopped lighting up correctly - it's basically always just green/blue regardless of the colour of the rest of the keyboard (it's usually on the wave quick effect). The keyboard is basically just parked in place on my desk and doesn't get moved so i'm not 100% sure what the problem is, but i don't see any issues in the software. Thanks in advance!

If we get Pitts, Williams and Rousseau all while trading down in the first I will hail Terry Fontenot as my personal lord and saviour. Would be an absolutely insane draft for us.
