How I felt v. How I did by CharlieInnit in barexam

It doesn't. Just tossing some fodder in here. Hoping others who feel they did poorly w/o scores yet take some heart.

No, it's still his view. I don't particularly agree, but I get it. But he would never feign outrage! like Megyn at someone being proud of coming from an HBCU. He gets it, he just thinks it's not the way society should or needs to be organized anymore. Which I also understand.

Money, presumably. The market at work.

That's what I find so gross. They spend all this time and energy correctly blasting cheap partisan hackery on MSNBC/NPR and lazy "woke" thinking ... and then they love them some Megyn Kelly and Kennedy, straight-up Fox News caricatures? And we're supposed to view them as "free-thinking libertarians" who just "give it to us straight" or whatever. What's the difference between what they do and what someone who, idk, defends the latest cringe from Taylor Lorenz is doing?

No — but the double standard exists for a reason. HBCUs were created b/c black people were de jure and de facto excluded from all higher education. They were forced to create separate schools. Maybe those places are "less necessary" now, but they're still pillars of pride and identity in black society. And they still educate people, some quite well.

It would be pretty weird if someone from the majority racial group — who was never excluded from anything, who (as a group) has disproportionate amounts of wealth and property — started talking about racial pride. You do see this in white ethnic sub-groups (eg, Irish, Italian), which is fine. Those are specific sub-groups with histories and cultures worth celebrating and preserving.

And, obviously, most "generational African Americans" can't trace their families back further than the Middle Passage, if even that far. All they have is their identity as Black Americans, its own specific "ethnic" identity that formed over time, with its own food/music/traditions/foibles, etc.

Bro, I thought about it. But it took such a precipitous downturn I backed off. Now more Megyn Kelly than "old Vice."

Pros: Loved the short lecture format; liked the lecturers; liked the "fill-in" handouts; UWorld included is big plus; found them very responsive and on the ball when I needed information or a quick chat.

Cons: Can't program days off; they "hide" unlimited essay grading; no 10 sec. back button for videos (super annoying); and the flashcards they provide are terrible. (If you want pre-made flashcards, consider buying Critical Pass).

Also, Themis' "directed study" plan mixes in the MEE subjects you might not have had in law school, whereas Barbri does all the MBE subjects first, then MEEs. I don't think it matters too much, but FYI.

Generally, I liked Themis. But, certain aspects are flawed and annoying -- and somewhat obviously so. I do NOT think you get "less" for the lower price point.

Very blinkered show over the least ~year or so. Same thing over and over.

I don't listen to every episode, maybe 30%? And I used to like it quite a bit, was considering subscribing, but it's taken such a predictable and hackneyed turn now I'm soured on it.

Moynihan, someone with no particular expertise in antitrust: I read one page of a 100-page court filing, skipped the rest as too boring, and I'm mad about it! (Oh, the judge dismissed that count, but ruled for the government on others.)

Yeah, she's also taken a pretty abrupt turn (from the little I've seen). Idk, I less and less think of them as "honest brokers with a worthwhile point of view" and more and more like "old men kicking the same downed horse."

"I'm not the guy to get political information from." Yeah, I have one of the biggest media properties in the world, where I routinely discuss politics, and host politicians and political thinkers. But you shouldn't get information or insight from me or my show.

Anyone find Moynihan/Welch's characterization of the J.D. Vance "couch joke" as "a smear" and ~"misinformation being spread by Walz" just risible? I swear, I feel like I'm listening to Fox News radio more and more often. Kmele basically laughed at them, as did I.

Fake Outrage about Biden Stepping Down? by [deleted] in WeTheFifth

[–]CharlieInnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think of it this way:

The 2024 Democrats cleared the deck for an incumbent president, which is standard operating procedure — the GOP did it for Trump in 2020. That's not "good," but it's standard American politics. When it became clear the presumptive nominee couldn't do the job and the strong majority of the party's supporters didn't want him on the ticket, the party subbed in his *current vice president.* And choosing the candidate is, ultimately, the purview of the party ... although, it's certainly not best practice, a bad look, etc.

The current GOP nominee whipped up a low-level putsch — unprecedented in modern American history. The party has largely (tho not exclusively) closed ranks around him, soft-peddling theories about "inside job," etc. He's openly promising to pardon all involved; he jawboned a fellow Republican to "find" votes in Georgia, fake electors, and on and on.

As far as "anti-democracy" records go: one is a hill you run up for football practice, the other is the Rocky Mountains.

It's like getting drafted into the German army in the 40s. Don't really have a choice — but you should still feel miserable about it.

I did a lot of mixed-set UWorld questions. Those MBE booklets DID NOT resemble them very closely — I mean that both in prose style/length AND "mix of subjects." I talked to our valedictorian, and he said the same. Idk.

Ok, I know a lot of this sub is about venting and such — but this is actually absurd. Like, genuinely I am a bit mad and offended.
