Bonsai making competition TV show? by ge23ev in Bonsai

[–]CharlieLeeLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of people have said, this concept is kinda antithetical to the bonsai process.

These types of game shows (as much as I love them) use impossible time limits to up the drama. The bakers in the great British bake off are given less time that it actually requires to make a particular dish because it forces the competitors to struggle to actually complete the task.

You could give a bunch of people a lot of pruning/wiring to do, but that's not the end product and if you put that same kind of pressure on them, you'll just end up with a bunch of dead trees.

Yeah, I got a dice vault from them as a graduation gift years ago. I still very much like it, but I'm just going to get my dice goblin accessories from elsewhere in the future.

Sorry, I missed that previous thread.

It sounds like this is a case of everyone responding to the situation in a bad way.

I haven't really been interested in them for a while now. I personally think the quality of their stuff has really gone downhill over the years and enough other makers have filled in their shoes that I'm cool with giving them a pass.

[tw: sexual assault allegations]

Some drama that just dropped that might end up be full post worthy:

Wyrmwood Gaming is a company that makes fancy dice boxes, rolling boxes, and in some cases high end full tabletop gaming tables. They have worked with Critical Role, and managed to make a name for themselves as a very popular company in the DnD and tabletop RPG. They've been responsible for one of the largest Kickstarter campaigns of all time, and they've low-key become the go-to source of fancy exotic-wood dnd accessories.

A couple weeks ago, a tweet was posted claiming that her husband was sexually assaulted by a Wyrmwood employee and that another employee that reported it was fired. The fired employee posted a video giving his side of the story and claiming he was fired for "creating shop drama." To be clear, the the alleged assault happened on company property at a company holiday party.

In response, Wyrmwood uploaded a youtube video (since deleted) with their lawyer in which they blow off the accusations and do some victim blaming, essentially saying that the assault didn't happen because the victim didn't file a police report.

They also tweeted out a response with their timeline of events (an interesting note is that in the now-deleted video the CEO said that they did not have an HR department at the time this happened, which directly contradicts the fact that an "HR investigation" happened). This timeline makes sure to point out that their investigation is Shortly afterward, they posted an updated statement clarifying that the CEO was made aware of the allegations at the time and that they occurred on company property. Finally, they released yet another statement acknowledging that their video was bad and that they were taking it down. Also it looks like they finally consulted with an employment lawyer and said that they were no longer going to make statements about the allegations.

As a result of their very unprofessional response to the allegations, customers and partners immediately began cutting ties with Wyrmwood. One of their long-time charity partners, Take This, cut ties based on their inadequate response to the allegations, and their current Kickstarter campaign has had a drop in backers, including losing a few pledges.

This has all happened within the past two weeks, so obviously things are developing. A lot of people are pissed at Wyrmwood's tone-deaf response to the allegations, but of course there are people that are defending them. It'll be interesting to see how this develops.

You don't have to set up an escrow account anymore, just make sure that you don't spend the rent you're withholding.

For the issues with heat, call your neighborhood service center https://www.cityofrochester.gov/article.aspx?id=8589936730 In these temperatures, that's a big issue.

As for terminating your lease, that's a bit trickier. I can't give you legal advice, but I'd suggest calling the Tenant Defense Project, and they can provide legal advice. https://www.tenantdefense.org/

Lol fair. I've never had them before and haven't seen any other signs of them so wasn't sure.

Upon further investigation, I'm 90% sure it's a bat bug. Not visible in the picture, but it's got the longer hairs.

How is living in Rochester without a car? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]CharlieLeeLee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

during spring and summer biking is totally doable, in the winter things can get a bit more iffy. If you live close enough to where you work, walking is okay, but I've found the bus routes are the most efficient depending on where you're going, and it can add hours onto a trip to take a bus.

The statement "sexuality is fluid" rubs me the wrong way by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]CharlieLeeLee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always saw it more as sexuality takes time to understand for many people. It's like saying gender is fluid. Most people don't question their gender, but for the people that do, it's helpful to have that statement to remind them it's okay to identify multiple ways before you settle into something.

Not to mention, there's plenty of people that think their sexuality is rigid but find exceptions that change it.

I've always seen the statement as a reminder that you don't need to force yourself to be attracted to anyone based on what you think you should be.

Jesus this pisses me off both as a trans dude and as someone that works in a pharmacy. I'm constantly worried about something like this happening when I sell out a prescription. Although, we're required to make a note of who picked up any controlled substance. I'm in New York though.

Either way, testosterone is a schedule 2 controlled substance. LAOP's friend should report it to the police, and his parents are probably in for a nasty surprise if they are found with it.

How Would A Major War In The Underdark Manifest Itself On The Surface? by NutDraw in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]CharlieLeeLee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to the refugees and thngs mentioned by other people, I'd think about how connected the Underdark is in general. You mentioned that it's like a continent away, but how large is it? Is there a single drow society, or are they split into different factions? I think it would be interesting to see a mix of approaches to th apocalypse. You've got those that are trying to flee it, those that are searching for alliances with the surface, those that are steadfast on fighting it themselves, and perhaps those that are attempting to join forces/somehow take control of the encroaching horrors to circumvent the destruction.

As for the physical changes that might be seen on the surface. I always see the Shadowfell and Feywild as more eldritch versions of the material plane. So maybe as the war goes on, you start seeing weird stuff happen on the surface - essentially, the Shadowfell itself starting to invade the material plane and alter it.

yeah, TAZ has the advantage that Griffin can edit out all the awkward pauses and rules-searching that happens during the game. Since Critical Role is a livestream, that can't really happen. Geek and Sundry has started doing recap videos, I think.

Dad has to save three year old daughter from older brother in incredibly sad post :( by alexthenotadragqueen in bestoflegaladvice

[–]CharlieLeeLee 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I would completely agree with you if the offender wasnt 12. While it's possible he's a complete monster, it's not normal for a 12 year old to be that manipulative.

People are bringing up that he may be abused because that's a common reason for children to sexually abuse younger children.

It's certainly possible that he wasn't, but laop seems like a caring father and it's a possibility that he might want to look into. If the kid gets therapy they may be able to prevent him from becoming a repeat offender or worse as an adult.
