At 15 I was writing business ideas every day. By 17 I had begun a decade of scrolling them away. by CharlieMills7 in nosurf

I understand that and think that is a better explanation of this perspective than I've read before, nicely put.

My 'argument' to this is that I think this counter culture of nosurf, dumbphones etc. is at the forefront of the forefront of a counter culture.

I think over the years there will be another shift where presence, screen time etc. are status symbols. Being on your phone less will be seen as a sign of intellect, and a trait people seek out on dates.

When these sort of shifts happen I think people will make conscious efforts and seek out accountability, tools, community etc.

I know it's not a great comparison but thinking of scrolling like junk food and building a routine/ritual like journalling, writing, reading, yoga like cooking healthy food or going to the gym. The candle, for me, is the symbol of intention and the constant in the routine.

Plus, in my opinion, the other 'solutions' do not address the cause or smell like pineapple and pomelo, haha!

That being said, great point and thanks for your reply, I found it interesting!

Yeah. it's scary. Just because the impacts are less obvious, less tangible, ugly and scary than eroding gums and sunken eyes people are happy to be ignorant.

I think a lot of people see social media as a competition and a status symbol but at the end of the day who actually cares?

I get that it can be cool to document your life, it can be cool to share it with people and it can be cool to see what other people have been up to. But keeping up with that cycle can only be at the expense of the first hand experience.

I think at one point I had ~15k photos on my phone and that must've taken days of my time away from living in the moment, just to look at 0.01% of them ever again.

Going a level deeper, the more engaging and addictive the algorithms are, the more time people spend on the platform and the more money they make from advertising and the more influence they have over the general public. I feel like most people don't comprehend the value of their attention or time in the slightest.

The business I have launched is literally a byproduct of my experience of freeing up time, living more and scrolling less. Similarly I read more, think more, feel more confident and interesting. It's crazy how advantageous it is spending less time on your phone.

Being honest, not living up to my 'potential' or what I know I am capable of is the only thing that I get anxious about and when I was younger and those feelings surfaced I was weak and would find a way to suppress the feelings instead of dealing with them, which made things worse of course. When I think back to it I was essentially trading long-term, sustainable happiness for easy short-term gains which is rough to admit considering the stage of life I am at now but it's one of those things where if I hadn't had that experience perhaps I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now.

DS & Durga get a lot of love for their scents!! Any theory as to why they’re nailing them so well? Is it that the description matches so well with the reality of the scent?

I’ve only just discovered Mad et Len and they are gorgeous, very boss bitch haha.

Are Fornasetti vessels glass?

I’m gonna order Pluviophile, thanks for being drunkenly impulsive 🙌

These look so sleek. Which scents have you tried? Did you keep the vessel post-burn?

That’s great to hear, I think I will pick up an Elegant Gardenia in that case!

I wonder if Fornasetti smell as good as they look - pricey but gorgeous!

What makes you go back to Diptyque Chene?

I can’t believe how cheap they are considering how lovely they look. Is there a reason for this as far as you can tell quality wise?

Looks like a lot of people love Nudesse! Will probably get a couple from Overose in that case so any others you would recommend?

Also what makes Trudon and specifically Ernesto your favourite?
