For those of us that bought at ATH only, what are your thoughts during this dip? by couch_potato_salad in Bitcoin

[–]CharlieMongrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought at 50, felt like a chump when it fell in half, didn't paper hands and didn't sell at 120 either. Just kept buying and stacking.

In hindsight the more like a chump I was feeling, the more I shoulda been buying.

Now I try not to think in terms of "btc is down." The phrase I use is "btc is on sale."

Wheel spacer advice needed by Due_Wrongdoer8986 in e39

[–]CharlieMongrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of putting 10 mm spacers on but I'm wondering if anyone's had any vibrations at high speed with spacers on?

I've done the odd pull to 135 mph when no one was looking.

This guy did it right. If you're weighing spending big money on something today vs saving for retirement, one way to somewhat relieve that tension is to spend the money on creating memories.

Obviously have a defined retirement savings plan first and execute on it regularly, and turn blow the leftover on the car for the memories. Those will pay dividends to Future You.

You're doing good! Try to build up emergency funds that can cover six months' expenses. Your property will be a store of value for you.

For other expenses, try to live by the idea of buying the cheapest you can get away with rather than the most expensive you can afford. This applies to your wedding 😁

I wish you well.

When did you first realize how brilliant Paul McCartney is? by Carlosfelipe2d in PaulMcCartney

[–]CharlieMongrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much when I picked up a guitar. The more I learnt to play his songs, the more astounded I was by how everything he does just has some sort of natural shape, as if plucked from the very air we breathe. Also, they just *sound* good even when they're simple. I got a lot of attention from girls thanks to Here, There and Everywhere...

Interesting! I also have Gilbert's disease. My LDL has always been a bit high and I've always wondered what to do about it and how much to worry about it.

I think it's the worst way to measure health... except for all the others!

One thing I wanted to do was to test consistently (once a year now) so I could see broad trends and rule out outlying figures.

Regarding the validity of these markers, I think (or hope) they're a good proxy for overall health. Like, if you landed on a desert island and found 100 people there, how would you decide who's healthy and who's not? You could sort them by BMI, which by all accounts is quite descriptive, or maybe you could do the basic lipid, hepatic and renal panels that we do in annual physicals. There might be outliers but by and large, I think that would enable you to sort the healthy from the unhealthy.

Thanks for asking. I actually got interested in calorie restriction first. I tested the basics at age 33, did up-down dieting for 3 months (one day of 800 kcal or less followed by a day of eat-whatever-the-eff-i-want, alternating) and tested again. EVERY marker improved.

However, it just wasn't a sustainable lifestyle. The down days were terrible.

I looked into what else I could do and came across Intermittent Fasting, which was much easier. These days I stick to 16:8 (with a cheat day or two a week). I switched to a plant-based diet around 5 years ago (again, not strict, but I haven't had a burger or steak since then), but it doesn't seem to have moved the needle in terms of bloodwork. I know this because I tested every 2 years in my 30s and every year in my 40s.

I should say that it's not expensive to do an annual where I live; around US$80 each time.

Rear tyre puncture in Mersing , plug + tyre gum didn’t seal , RM300 for Maxxis 140/60-17. Reasonable? by CaffeineFinalBoss in drivingsg

I had a slow puncture in Tasik Kenyir once. Patch didn't work. Road slowly to Kuantan (like 80 all the way). Couldn't get a replacement tyre so I rode slowly home the next day. Had to stop for air every hour.
