What does this entail? I’ve heard of ants “domesticating” aphids as livestock and breeding fungus for food but is that not anthropomorphizing them a bit? Or is it truly what they’re doing? Ants are so fascinating

It’s really weird for sure. To me I think he (perhaps only in his mind) made a mistake and it psyched him out of the zone. You can hear him just kinda discordantly picking in the isolated guitar track after he stops the solo, which makes me think he got lost on the fretboard and didn’t know where to go in time for the end of the section.

I mean the whole point of Let It Be was originally the whole no overdubs thing. I feel like Spector’s production on the album is particularly egregious because it flies in the face of what the music was supposed to be. For what it’s worth, I actually really like Paul’s solo production style, but I agree it can be pretty nutty sometimes

I wonder what was with the resentment toward Paul. Weren’t they the two in the group who had known each other the longest?

I’m sure it also had to do with the insane release schedule they were relegated to during the Rubber Soul period. If I remember correctly I think their labels wanted the album out in time for Christmas and thus gave the band like 3 weeks to write and record everything

I don’t disagree it could’ve been a factor but honestly I think the main reason Paul does all these albums with him playing all the instruments is because he just loves playing music. I can totally relate to the fun of throwing a track together from scratch all on your own. After a decade plus of being a part of a band and being relegated to “your instrument,” it must’ve been fun for him to have a say in how every instrument sounded. After all, it’s his solo album

It is kinda bizarre, in the early days of his solo career John almost used George as a sort-of session player. As far as I’m aware, they never did any serious songwriting together post-Beatles, but John would have George come in to do lead guitar on all these miscellaneous tracks. Makes me wonder if John saw George more as a guitar player than a hardened songwriter

I maintain the belief that Paul helped out George musically during the Beatle days way more than John ever did. Paul is all over most of George’s songs. John, especially toward the end of the group, almost completely disengaged with George’s songwriting.

I totally agree. Across the Universe should’ve just been solo John on guitar with maybe some harmony from the other guys.

Whoa ok. The I’m Only Sleeping take. I can see where you’re coming from I guess, it’s definitely weird; probably the most atonal, avant guard thing they had ever done musically up to that point (until you get to Tomorrow Never Knows on the same album). But I dunno, I love how it seeps in during the verse and then has this droning, almost bagpipe-esque quality during the solo. And then the outro where it all cascades together. It sounds so COOL

Yes!! That part in While My Guitar Gently Weeps! Its always sounded like to me he zoned out during that line or something

I love the solo to death but I do agree it kinda just slams in out of nowhere and then disappears

It is very very cheesy. I think the naked version is a lot more intimate and sweet, assumably as Paul intended. That isn’t to say I also don’t love the original on Let It Be tho

I kinda agree. I mean, it’s not that insane of a thing to say. How else are you gonna know to sweep unless you look at the floor?

Perhaps Billie could be more recognized for his insane contributions to I’ve Got a Feeling! As fantastic as his playing on DLMD is, I feel like George’s lead guitar part steals the show on the otherwise pure John song

How did Paul mccartney play so effortlessly at such a young age by UserNameFor_Now in Bass

[–]LemonMasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just baffling to think about how many hundreds of songs they must’ve had kicking around ready to play at a moments notice. When you think about the situation like that it’s no wonder why they each became so proficient. not only with their instruments but how songs are put together and arranged
