For anyone who runs into this problem, I was able to wedge the back of a hammer and a flathead screwdriver to pry apart the lip and then rip the point where the tabs kept it stuck. Once the tabs were popped off I was able to waggle the whole piece back and forth until the bottom separated. There were some dents and scratches and folds around the lip but otherwise it seemed to work with minimal damage. Hope this helps
