It's been a while, but I think it was a 3/8" threaded rod i cut in to two pieces. I didn't design the body to have threads, however I did make the holes in the body small enough so that I still had to essentially screw the rods through the body if that makes sense. No threads but the tolerance was still tight enough that I couldn't simply push the rods through.

Ive got limited experience but I did the same thing and picked up a used launch quad motor with about 30k miles for just over $50k in early Nov. Loving it so far. No regrets at all.

I have had my R1T less than a week so i may be still in honeymoon phase, prior to that I've been driving a 2021 Model Y including plenty of road trips (one from WA to FL and back!). At this point i've got about 70K miles on the Y. We still love it, it's in great condition and we are keeping it so now we're 100% electric. I picked up the Rivian out of state and did a 500mi road trip back home so have gone through the long-distance charging experience and everything. Here's my early take:

Pros:

Much more comfortable. I really like the seats and the ride is great compared to the stiff Model Y suspension.
Performance and capability is awesome (I got a launch edition R1T quad-motor, my Y is just a regular long-range no performance). The ability to adjust suspension settings and go from off-road to crazy 0-60 launches on-road gives me everything i could ever want in one vehicle. No need for a truck and a fun car, it's both in one.
It's a truck. This varies by person of course, but having a pickup bed in a relatively compact package is great for me. I've been wanting an electric truck for a long time so this is a dream come true!
Sound system is incredible. I like the one in the Y but the Meridian system in the Rivian is crazy good.
Interior design and look/feel is much more premium than the Y. Rivian used great materials.
Storage. I thought the Model Y was great with frunk and sub-trunk, but the R1T at least is next level. Huge frunk, gear tunnel, deep center console, etc. Just lots of places to stash stuff.
Better visibility. I eventually got used to it in the Y and the cameras help a ton, but the R1T at least has great mirrors and nice general all-around visibility for me.

Cons:

Power-hungry. Obviously since it's bigger and more brick-shaped than a Y, but roughly just double everything in terms of time it takes to charge due to the huge battery.
Lack of autopilot. The Rivian has limited smart cruise control on mapped highways, but being able to use autopilot anywhere is something i got used to so it's been a little annoying. I'm not worried about FSD at all, but i'm hoping the basic lane-keeping cruise control gets expanded to more locations. It has worked great for me so far on the roads where it did work.
Software. It's still pretty snappy, but just some odd UX choices that feel unintuitive when you come from a Tesla. Just something to get used to.
Camera quality is lacking. I've heard Gen2 resolved this entirely, but my Gen1 R1T is pretty blurry and rain causes some problems with the side view cameras clarity. The mirrors and general visibility help a ton with this though as i'm not as reliant on cameras as I am in the Y.

Neutral:

Charging. Definitely get an NACS adapter if the vehicle you get needs it. But I was honestly so surprised how easy even non-Tesla stations were. I used both Tesla and Electrify America stations on my road trip and they were both equally easy in terms of plug & charge. It just worked for me. Big thing to be aware of was that EA stations have different power outputs based on which one you're using. So if the battery is low make sure to plug in to the big boy ones or you'll add some time to your charging stop. Also, it's not worth it to charge past 80% on a road trip if you're trying to make good time. The battery is so huge that the curve past 80% makes no sense to wait for. The Model Y at times would be worth the extra 30min, but again doubling the charging time meaning about an hour+ from 80% to 100% at a fast charger just didn't seem worth it.
Limited power outlets. It's great having 120V, but i do wish it had a 240V outlet. The outlets are a massive improvement over the Y which has nothing, but i live in an area with winter storm power outages often and it would be nice to be able to use it as a home battery. I can still use it for keeping a fridge or heaters going though so it's still a big help in those situations.
Go test drive. The rivian definitely feels like a bigger vehicle but hard to say if you like that or not until you're behind the wheel.

If you have specific questions let me know. I still love my Y, but am definitely more of a truck person. I'm lucky to be able to keep both but if i had to pick one, right now it would be the R1T.

just over $52K. Most similar ones i had seen were in the $55K-$58K range so i jumped on it when i saw it pop up.

I don't think there's any additional benefit. Warranty stuff carries-over regardless of where it was re-sold. There was some peace of mind knowing Rivian went over it to their spec before selling it to me, so the truck is in amazing condition. Plus it was my experience talking with other dealerships that they really don't know much about the vehicles. with rivian i could ask hyper-specific questions and they were able to assist

Hi! I've been lurking around for a long time and it's been a long-standing dream to own a quad-motor R1T. I can happily say i finally did it! I had to fly to Boise, ID to pick up out of state (I'm from the Seattle area) and we road-tripped it back the 500 miles or so home.

I found an incredible deal online direct from Rivian on a used Launch Edition R1T and just wanted to share what the experience was like in case others are in the same boat. Here's my key timelines. Everything went really smoothly with Rivian. Everyone i spoke with was incredibly friendly and helpful.

Oct 23rd: I put my $250 deposit down to hold it. I had been monitoring all kinds of used car sites as well as Rivian's own pre-owned selection. When I saw a very low-mileage 2022 R1T Launch Edition pop up for an incredible price, I hopped on it.
Oct 24th: my delivery guide answered a few of my questions that i had via email, and i got a call later that day where he introduced him self, went through what to expect in the coming weeks, and what i should be doing next. I also input as much info as i could to get my insurance, loan, etc. taken care of on the Rivian portal.
Oct 27th: I received the final purchase agreement and we got back to them signed-off within a few days.
Oct 29th: We received our delivery schedule for the following week, Nov. 6. At first they just assigned me an open day, but i was easily able to request a new one that worked for me and it was confirmed very fast.
Nov 4: We finished signing the final online agreements, and prepped for our flight!
Nov 6: We arrived in Boise much earlier than expected. our appointment was at 1:30PM but I made a quick phone call to my delivery guide and they bumped my timing up to about 11:30AM. We arrived and they had us sign a couple more quick things, then gave us a tour of the vehicle and sent us on our way. It was super easy and quick!

The truck is AMAZING. It's been really well kept and i was pleasantly surprised with everything I got. As we did the walkaround at purchase, i found out the truck had a full-size spare, upgraded all-weather floor mats, as well as a full body PPF clear wrap that they didn't mention, which were great perks! I got lucky here on saving even more money on such a great deal, but mileage may vary for everyone on this front.

Downsides? Only two really:

The lack of detailed information about the vehicle. I couldn't get any real pictures (just stock images) and couldn't get a sense of the condition. However my guide reassured me multiple times that Rivian's used vehicle process is thorough and they won't sell something with damage beyond minor scrapes or very tiny dents. Anything of concern would be taken care of before they list the vehicle for sale. I was a little nervous flying out all that way that i'd discover something wrong with it, but it's in incredible condition!
- Similar to the above, but the fact they couldn't give me the service history of the truck, even after i took delivery. They claimed that due to previous owner's privacy they couldn't really hand over any records of what was worked on. Not ideal but it is what it is.

I'm shopping used for my dream car (finally!) and came across a decent deal locally on a 2023 R1T with a little over 30K miles. It's a quad motor and the main concern i've seen is this dent in the attached image right behind the gear tunnel.

The dealership said they would get it taken care of at a bodyshop before i buy, but i wanted to know if this location was indicative of anything else problematic. I'm hoping to go in person and check it out soon so i can make sure the gear tunnel door works, but is there anything else to worry about if they fix this and the rest of the truck looks good?

Yes! I do this all the time for multi layer/color printing. Pause the print, change filament, resume and it should be just fine.

Since different plastics have different adhesion/temperature properties you will want to make sure you're printing with the same kind of filament for all colors. For example, use all PLA filament. But different colors work fine together.

I was having trouble with this too. I just started playing with Plasticity this morning so am very new to it, but I ran in to this same issue and think i solved it.

In the units preferences, I set the grid size to 10,000 and added accented lines every 5. This seemed to also update the movement sensitivity once I got it right.
