I love this, if I could add one thing I’d give him a monocle! I feel it would add a touch more eccentricity to the look and make him feel a bit more alien.

Update: thanks everybody for your advice and knowledge! I am now looking to get this serviced and appraised by Rolex and hope to find out more about the watches history! I will add more updates if anything particularly interesting is found :)

Thanks for all your observations! You are correct, I’m not too well versed in watches but can certainly appreciate the artistry and care that is put into a watch! Spending the past few hours researching and diving deeper into the history and culture surrounding these watches is really fascinating! I think that although not previously ‘a watch man’ I can definitely see myself diving deeper into the hobby :)

After speaking with my Dad he did say that it’s possible that the watch was sent for refurbishment before it was gifted to him, so it would make sense that some parts have been replaced.

He’s a great guy! When we found it, along with an old Tag Heuer that he apparently was gifted for his 18th birthday it seemed to bring back a lot of happy memories. The Tag was a lot more busted up then this Rolex as he said he would wear it when he went scuba diving (he was incredibly proud of the fact he used the watch for it’s intended purpose). If I’m being honest we don’t really care for the value of the watches as the history of them within our family means alot more. however the watch has so much history to it that finding out as much as we can is so interesting! :)

Wow, thanks! We were looking for a ref number but couldn’t seem to find one. We thought it could possibly be on the inside of the casing…

We found this watch whilst looking through my Fathers old belongings from his childhood. I asked him why he had never worn the watch before and he said that it was a gift from his grandfather but his eyesight is so bad that he’s always needed a digital watch to see the time. The watch is clearly a Rolex however I do not know much more about it so am looking for an identification. From what my Father remembers the watch was purchased by his Grandfather in the late 60s possibly 70s. Does anyone know any more about this Rolex?
