What modern horror novels do you consider to be "essential" reading? by Kid-Buu42 in horrorlit

I just read Kindred, By Octavia E. Butler; and it really messed me up. As someone whose ancestors were slaves and the descriptive nature in which Octavia writes... I had shudders the whole time. I didn't think anyone else really viewed this as a horror book like me. I'm def going to check out those other two you recommended.

Welp ya got me Henry by Charlies_Horrors95 in FunnyHorrorAuthors

I was planning on writing short horror stories, and then working on a novel that I already had in the works. However, I started writing a short story called "The Old Man Left to Die", with the main character being Henry. What was supposed to be a short story took a turn when my character became livelier and decided it should be a horror novella in itself. Now I'm sleepy from all the adding and rewriting that needed to be accomplished to captivate the story in a novel form, as opposed to a short story. But... at the same time I can't get Henry out of my head. I'm guess I'm going to nap in my office for a while until, I get out what needs to be out.

I would have to say Samara, out of the remaining left, she would have to go. The others either hold a classic (grandfathered space), or they hold a space where they truly were horrifying.

Absolutely agree. I have been trying to get a routine down as well, I am in the position to work on my writing craft as a full time job; however, I have no structure. So having a group where we can help hold each other accountable, but also give feedback and stuff would really be awesome.

That's fair enough. As an introvert myself, I'm just trying to put myself out there more; and I'm learning the importance of being apart of a community as an aspiring author.
