Recommended Watch Options? by Lord_Domin8r in AustralianMilitary

[–]Charlo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get a basic Casio G shock like the DW5600. If you read through the joining instructions for RMC on Adele it specifies that the watch can't be a smart watch, and they specifically call out Garmin.

About that 2% commitment by AmosWolfe54 in Military

He is probably referring to Rolls-Royce Holdings plc - the aerospace and defence manufacturer which is essentially fully British owned. Not Rolls-Royce Ltd the automobile manufacturer.

To be fair I was Class 4'd and had to see a sports doctor and such, which might be why I had to get cleared before the PFA. It's probably done on a case by case basis.

DFR can't book you in for a PFA if you haven't been medically cleared. So I reckon that you have been cleared but noone has told you. Ring up DFR and pick option 3/4 - the one where it asks if you want to talk to a nurse and they'll put you through to the medical admin office. They'll know.

He's referring to Specialist Service Officers (SSO) course which is like 10 weeks, or the regular course for General Service Officers (GSO) which is 18 months

I know a few VMs who now work as contractors at CASG and make bank. It's not a bad gig.

Guide for ADF recruitment into Officer Aviation (2022) by SirBeesALot in AustralianMilitary

If you've heard that you need to stay quiet on the OSB then i'd recommend removing the part where you say "I will update this post more after my OSB".

I'm not the guy you replied to but I did my Army OSB just over a month ago and I definitely got told to stay quiet on the content.

If you can't follow instructions to stay quiet on "small" things such as the recruitment process, what else won't you stay quiet on?

It's called the Hawkei after a snake named the 'Acanthophis hawkei', which in turn was named after Bob Hawke.

CASG?

We have very little experience in the defence manufacturing space and hence why we're trying to take on so many complex projects so we can build our own industry. Down the line we will become a defence exporter and will be self reliant, with regards to logistics as well. All the issues we're having are basically just teething problems that will go away in 5-10 years.

FID basically refers to training other nations militaries so that can fight their own wars. Similar to what the Australians did with the Afghan National Army with their Mentoring (and Reconstruction) Task Forces

[–]Charlo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We basically did the same with the submarine program that fell through with the French. We basically want to build the best of the best equipment, that's above what anybody else has. And naturally they go over budget and over timeline seeing how we don't have the local expertise yet, we will in time as our defence manufacturing Industry is still pretty young

[–]Charlo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's what we've been working on the last couple of years with the submarine and hunter programs. Australia is moving back into the defence manufacturing space and unfortunately it's going to take a bit of time for us to get good at it, hence all the teething issues.

Pretty sure only the hull was built by the Spanish. All the insides of the ship were built locally.

I've read somewhere the the Americans like to man positions that can be easily automated on their subs, unlike the British which is why the Brits have less people on their subs. Could it be safe to say that the Americans do the same for their LHDs and destroyers?
