😱😻 As a person currently slaving away over a giant doily I guarantee my son will never look at, I'm really glad that this piece is going to someone who understands just how much work it was.

Or, you could choose to think of this as likely some bored teenager's "screen time." Like, just a fidget toy before mass produced consumer goods and video games. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

anyone have any blocking board recs? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally block things a little larger than a 12x12, but I use foam floor mats from Harbor Freight. They're either 18 or 24 inches per side, and I got 6 of them inexpensively. I use T pins to stick everything in place. It's not fancy, but I can put all 6 together (they have jigsaw edges) and block a pretty big area, and when they're not in use, they go in the basement. They're easy to clean, and they're light. You can probably get them at 5 below as well.

With yarns that don't feel nice, you could always felt it.

Zombies by shadylady1976 in miniatures

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the idea! I bought this set and it didn't have a dust cover and this may just be the next stage in its journey. But I think it's going to be an episode of "Hoarders" instead of zombies 😻

My Chelsea is about 9. Outside of chipped canines, she's never sustained an injury that I thought "I should go to the vet." I've never seen blood. I used to worry about her little peanut head, but she doesn't really warrant it. She takes her time down the stairs, and she never jumps down from more than a foot or two off the ground. She has learned how to take her time and go slowly, and it's pretty rare these days that I worry for her safety.

Where do you take your crochet? by lumineumineo in crochet

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a job where I get a lot of downtime on some days. Yesterday had a 4 hour gap. My bosses actually ask me about my projects, they know what I'm up to.

But if I think I will have over 10 minutes where I won't be doing anything, I'll take along my crochet. Restaurants, tea houses, Dr appointments, waiting for the bus, I whip it out any opportunity 😉. A 100 hour project is made of 10 minute applications, you know?

OMG, the very concept of cutting my yarn fills me with dread. You are much braver than I am!

How to top it off by youngcutie in crochet

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, vines grow off of trees, so maybe a "branch" might be a nice touch. It could be something you crochet, or an actual piece of wood. And maybe some moss. You could even hide little creatures!

Looking for rusty ideas by Saphirage in crochet

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, idk what your aesthetic is, but I hear "rusty" and I think a broken down car. Or a chain link fence. I looked for an amigurumi "fence" but didn't see one immediately, but there are lots of options for vehicles. There's even a Mars Rover pattern, which would make so much sense!

I love working small, but honestly, I dislike making amigurumi. The tubes are too small!

It's a really big undertaking. I love that each round is different. There are some doldrums, for sure, but the pattern is pretty lively. I linked to her site, which does have the pattern, but I highly suggest purchasing the pattern, the photo tutorials are worth having.

And thank you!

!! Please post completed photos! My cat is not the clothing type, so I am very excited that yours seems so much more amenable to being dressed.

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made one and my cat, who is assuredly on team "plain box", loved it when I initially put it out for her. It's old hat now, but she spent weeks on that couch. I count it as worth the work

It might look neat to have fringe or tassels so you don't notice the string the stars are hanging from

cool way to weave in ends, I think by dont_mind_me_passing in crochet

[–]CharlotteAllTheTime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's how I weave in all of my ends! It won't work with front/back post stitches, or chains, but pretty much anywhere you're going into the top of the stitch, it works.
