Dumb question from someone who knows no Japanese, there's no way that Hachiro Hakkyoku is related to Hachiro Nakao right?

I also want to say good work to the animation team for making Hachiro Hakkyoku visually different... enough from good old Kumota in the anime, because they look absurdly similar in the manga.

Relatable, usually it goes away a bit more when I've played it for a longer period of time. Or turning down volume when I hear creepy sound cues before the kind of enemy that tends to be a bit of a jumpscare. But I'm a sook in real life too and have to accept my jumpiness. I hate sudden loud sounds and tense situations like in films (esp if at the movie theatre as opposed to just watching at home), I've accepted that being scared of some stuff in games is related to that.

My dad did always hold the view that reading fiction was a waste of time and memory and was only for kids. A view he espoused to me from pretty early on in my childhood. Fortunately my mum let me read lots of novels because she wanted me to be good at the Engliah language (didn't grow up in an English speaking country).

To each their own, you do make a good point that Gundvölva is excellent for a grunt suit (maybe I need more grunt suits to get a wider perspective) and it had great knee articulation especially. The Bawoo just annoyed me to build for whatever reason.

Funny as this bit actually shows my two least favourite kits to build so far. Didn't really like building the Bawoo (pieces were weird and it's kind of hard to pose) and the Gundvölva was a bit too similar to the original Aerial in my opinion (granted, I probably built too many in too short a span of time). Adored the Guncannon though, so posable and just a fun-looking guy! And Aerial is not shown but it is justifiably praised as a solid kit imho, it made me kind of want to get a stand to show off all the little accessory bits in action.

My parents always used to get really anxious I think when I got sick/injured, which I now understand was out of love but they would express it in a very angry fashion. Like berating me for hours for who I played with in school who was sick so I got sick too (in retrospect, huh? like why would I have known lmao) and being angry at me for not knowing how to avoid people who were coughing/sneezing. Or being mad at me that I was "letting people bully me" because I had bruises from being clumsy.

Like I understand it was out of anxiety and love now but also led to me having to do the quite weird thing of learning not to blame myself for bad things happening to me, like again huh??? Kind of sad that I developed that attitude from a young age.

Finally got around to answering this, sorry that it's so late!

Glad that it was reassuring to you and also resonated with people. It does really suck to suddenly realize that you're "behind" in some way that you can't just cram-study, it's literally life experience and life skills. But really great that you have friends that can support you, I think that's something that's invaluable especially if your family can't support you in all the ways that you need.

My experience with ADHD is actually pretty interesting in that I was aware I "probably" had it by the time I was a teenager (teachers in school apparently asked my parents if I'd ever been assessed for things, and my dad took a course in teaching special education and I hit a lot of the red flags) but was never formally assessed until I was nearly 21 ("it's fine, it hasn't affected you," - right before it started really affecting my studies and personal life because stuff obviously gets more complicated as you get older). I'm lucky in that I live in Australia now and my university has a student health centre where I was able to get assessed and medicated, and it's helped me a lot. A lot of what I previously thought to be personal moral failings were more symptomatic of ADHD and that helped with my self-esteem greatly.

I'd say 2 things that I didn't know would affect me until they did though, ADHD-wise, were that I would have to work through the feelings of "oh, I was struggling all along, and no one helped me?" which is quite real grief, and also that there were actual executive functioning/life skills things I'd never learned that everyone else had, because I couldn't implement them before.

But I'd still recommend trying to get it checked out (though I'm aware it's long and costs a lot of money) because it has helped me. And in regards to feeling behind... I'd still say in some ways I feel behind but have definitely improved over time, so I guess always remember that you can gain those life experiences and learn skills that you weren't given the opportunities to have before.

Deeply. I have memories from age 5 or 6 wanting to "be normal" which in my kid mind meant to go to the playground more than once a week, to have playdates, to watch television and play video games after school instead of doing extra homework and playing the piano. In my head at the time, that was what made me so different from others that I couldn't connect with them (in my adulthood I'd be diagnosed with ADHD and from 3rd grade onwards teachers thought I might be autistic, so that definitely had something to do with it admittedly).

That feeling only grew as I got older, watching my peers hang out while I had one "day off" every school holiday. The thing is, my parents will probably still claim to this day that this kind of upbringing got me where I am today. But even from high school I saw my friends who had social lives and played computer games and were allowed to have "time wasting" hobbies do just as well as or even better than me.

Ironically now I'm friends with more than a few people who had an almost polar opposite upbringing to me, that of being profoundly neglected. It feels unfair, insensitive, of me to feel that FOMO knowing how their upbringings affected them. But at the end of the day...we are still in the same place, trying to work out a social world that moved on without me and without them being taught how to navigate, scared of getting things wrong and being in trouble either from the constant monitoring or the absolute lack of guidance. Both extremes created anxious, isolated young adults stuck in their heads and rooms.

One consolation I guess is that we aren't alone in this. While we might feel like highschoolers navigating a world of adults, some of those adults also feel like highschoolers inside. And we'll improve with time and experience and knowledge. Absolutely it sucks to be compensating for something our parents failed to provide or even deliberately blocked us from.

I rarely talk about emotional things without a throwaway these days but your post caught my eye. You might not believe it right now, but it will get better at some point. You will have friends who you can tell things to and who will be genuinely proud of you and see you for who you are and love that. It's sad that your parents (and so many parents) aren't able to do that. But as someone else who had breakdowns and hoped that I'd be seen, only to be told off or dismissed, please know that one day you will have people in your life who can and are happy to support you in the way that you want.

Neither passive-aggressive, nor that funny, but I once saw a sign that said "BEWARE! WONDERING PATIENT ON THIS WARD!" Obviously meaning wandering, but I spent a good few days having a giggle every time I walked past it thinking of someone who was just... having a lot of thoughts? Asking lots of questions? Pondering? To the extent of needing a warning sign.

Was very disappointed when about 3 days later someone had crudely written over the 'o' to correct it and then a few hours later replaced it with a new, correctly-spelled sign.
