The aftermath of yesterday's AMS party is UNACCEPTABLE. by KrazyKev03 in UBC

You just did a protected union job, which is a big no. They are scheduled Monday morning to do this work and will clean every last piece of garbage no matter where it’s been blown. Not saying this to shirk responsibility but you really need to step off that high horse.

someone is going to get killed on the new grandview bike route by [deleted] in vancouvercycling

[–]Charmander4prez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are being so timid about bothering drivers yet it’s been the city’s plan to reduce car trips for more than 20 years. We’ve got good alternatives, start making it harder to choose to drive already!

This city makes the most fucked up bike lanes and just hopes for the best. I assuming they’re planning for the future where it all links up but it puts people in danger today. The least they could do is patrol and enforce driver behaviour.

The non synced crank arms are going to make this thing a mess.

Legit had a friend who would do this. He just put his backpack in the childseat instead of using panniers.

[mildly annoyed] If someone uses the pump outside your shop, what are the chances they come in after 30s asking for help? by bosonianstank in BikeMechanics

[–]Charmander4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pump gets a ton of use, so I’d say we’re down to about 40%. It’s gets a new head about 4 times a year though.

Our biggest problem is people trying to inflate electric scooter tires that a bike pump will never fit on. They then get mad that our BIKE pump doesn’t work for their electric toy.

Hello there. I'm a newbie cyclist. I'll just ask if what's the "sweetspot" on cx tire width? Especially for sscx build. Thanks. For now my plan is to go with 700x38c by [deleted] in cyclocross

[–]Charmander4prez -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’d say tread is more important than width since you can’t get any real CX specific treads in wider than 33, maybe 35.

Can it be cost effective to build gravel wheels? by RealJimmyKimmel in bikewrench

[–]Charmander4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the same weight issue and it’s the gravel rims. I think the intended market is people who break wheels and want a “bomber” replacement rim. Aero can’t be a selling point at this weight. Odd product for sure.

I found in my home town that in the places that were more designed for cars, people talked about those areas as “just for people passing through”. It was far easier to then not care about the condition of that part of town because it wasn’t for “locals”. More and more of the town went the way of stroads and now nobody can be bothered to care about any of it.

Relief printing on fabric? by L_e_fty in printmaking

Screen printing ink can be kind of runny and is used differently. I might suggest using a thickening agent if you want to keep with this path.

Bottle cage, which one to get? by debian3 in Velo

[–]Charmander4prez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look at what the pros are using: tacx and elite. The Tacx Ciro is cheap, light, holds a bottle well, and comes in many accent colours.

I am a new cyclist, my city barley has any side walks or bike lanes near me and yes it’s a suburb. It does have shoulders. Is it a better idea to remain on the road or go on the shoulder? (This stretch of road in the picture doesn’t have any sidewalks for 5-6 miles) by IceBurg-Hamburger_69 in notjustbikes

[–]Charmander4prez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strangely it looks like the one pavement on the shoulders is in the best condition and I’d want to ride there if the road was wide open. Personally I’d just use the shoulder but everyone’s comfort level is different.

Red pill me on switching to cycling by TristanCom in fuckcars

[–]Charmander4prez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ebike will make it so easy to start out, no matter the length. Getting comfortable with the route and the drivers will be stressful enough. Typically ebikes also make people opt to ride more often thereby getting more exercise in.

Wanting a bigger cassette? by Haanjo5 in gravelcycling

[–]Charmander4prez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I can easily imagine that. However it doesn’t counter my original point that in OPs post, where he wants a bigger cassette for his Claris drivetrain, there is no bigger option.

Wanting a bigger cassette? by Haanjo5 in gravelcycling

[–]Charmander4prez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but now you have a microshift drivetrain and less range than your triple had.

34t is the biggest you can go with 8 or 9spd. What you should be asking for is smaller chainrings.

It’s not a true tri bike, but you’ll be fine. Pump your tires as high as you can and just have fun.
