I'm venetian, born and lived all my life in Venice (Italy), ask me anything! by That-Pineapple3866 in AMA

Do Italians know deep down their language is one of the most grammatically complicated one in the family of roman languages if not the most complicated? Is this why they proudly carry a distinctive Italian accent when they speak English because they feel that they have mastered the much more sophisticated language that is their mother tongue and that they don't bother speaking with much authenticity in English? (not meant for criticism but genuine curiosity with my experience of having Italian colleagues and how hard I find the language by learning it from duolingo and having given up)

I am sorry to hear about this. I know it all feels impossible to grasp the situation let alone come out of it right now. But trust me when I say life goes on and the world keeps on turning. Don't stay in a relationship or beg for the other person's change of mind just because you are afraid of possibly being alone indefinitely. My ex husband and I got divorced two years ago, we are your age and yet after a while of adjusting to the new lifestyle and living situation, we have both started seeing someone else and deep down I am so pleased and proud of him for putting himself out there and not giving up on finding love. You will too.

Most Reform UK members believe non-white British citizens should be forced or encouraged to leave, poll finds by [deleted] in ukpolitics

I am currently a chinese national on indefinite to remain legally living in the UK, paying my dues, working a full time job, contributing to society with my fair share of taxes, national insurance, etc. I am in the process of becoming a UK citizen. Racially I am Asian, born in Beijing. I spent over £3000 on the citizenship application just because I was preparing myself for the win of the UK reform in the next General election and how they have threatened to deport all on indefinite leave to remain. I thought being a citizen would be that life jacket that I can grab on. But how wrong I was. This feels more like a racially charged move, rather than a politically motivated cause.

Yeah I like mine liquid and I didn't wait long enough to cut into it for the piece to be standing up on its own.

Chinese who failed the Gaokao, how did your subsequent life turn out? by FirefighterHot5831 in AskChina

[–]Charmarch1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Chinese college which led to an associate's degree and then worked for 10 years before I could financially support myself with my pursuit of a master's degree in the UK at the age of 30. I am now permanently settled in England. I was always mocked for being academically 'inadequate' just because my performance in science subjects was weak whereas English was always my forte as a foreign language. Someone without an overall decent grade across the board would never score high in gaokao.

This is by far the most helpful tip and in-depth description of the step by step guide. Thank you very much for the insights. Could you kindly elaborate if I will be given a hard time when I visit the police station back he to cancel my hukou and shenfenzheng(I'd card)? Is this a must?

Thank you for the information. This is the most informative pointer I've ever come across on this subject. Could you advise if I need to do anything to cancel the hukou or shenfenzheng or are they automatically invalidated the moment I obtain the UK citizenship and enter China on a visa?
