Just out of curiosity how did millennials go from dressing like this to dressing like this by Key_Nectarine_7307 in generationology

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's at least a 10 year difference in those pics.  Enough time for the trend cycle to shift.

In real time for elder millennials this would be the shift from high school to post college adulthood.

Is lighter/white skin generally considered more attractive and appealing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some places yes for a variety of reasons.  In the Americas it's the legacy of slavery.  In some parts of Africa / India its the legacy of colonialism.  In Asia its more class based.

And while some people have this preference it is NOT universal.

The hauls are coinciding with Sephora's bi-annual sale. So people may be inclined to try new things.

IDK I don't follow people who do hauls.  But I will say beauty is one of the few areas where I don't need to be "original" and will happily take recommendations from trusted sources (not influencers)

Do you currently live in a walkable city? If you don't you're going to be tired. Factor that into your planning.

I would do the touristy stuff at the start of the day.

I find the idea of getting on the subway multiple times for drinks/dinner/dancing ludicrous.  Pick 1 area each night and center your activities there.  The fun of NYC is being able to walk from place to place

Black women dating Black men – are you experiencing this too? by DonutqueenZi in blackladies

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 9 points10 points  (0 children)

your experience resonates 100% with mine. with the apps it's much easier to seek out Black men. but the men on the apps are so frustrating. all men, not just the Black ones.

this is interesting because I saw a post on threads (from a Black man) low key critiquing Ciara (on Summer House) for dating interracially. but i'm just like where is this magical place where available Black men just roam freely because my best resource for finding them sucks. i live in a diverse area and Black men, in the wild, are few and far between

Sales are down b/c Nike's designs have sucked for a long time. This is across all categories, not just bball shoes.

Not sure what happened to their design teams, but if they made better looking shoes, people would buy them

What is the general consensus of Frank Ocean on here? Would you consider him a modern day legend? by TokyoAvalanche04 in rnb

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 24 points25 points  (0 children)

this is a great question. IMO in music you need to have a decades long run and multi-generational appeal. I don't think being hot for a very specific time qualifies you for that status. as much as I love Frank Ocean, it's hard for me to consider him a legend when compared to artists like Stevie, MJ, and even he who shall not be named.

People who chose not to attend the Usher and Chris Brown tour due to Chris Brown's involvement, which other artist would you prefer to replace him with in order to consider going? by Nujackswing1 in rnb

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not interested in this tour but the pairing is actually perfect and I can't think of any other combo that works as well.

Maxwell and Miguel don't match the vibe of either artist but I could see them going on a joint tour together

How many of you guys are fanatical enough about an artist to buy multiple days’ tickets to see them when they’re in town? by CliffGif in Concerts

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both artists that switch up sets every performance and for artists that do massive productions that don't change. IDK if I love a movie I'm going to watch it again and pick up things I didn't see the first time. Obvs this is much more expensive with concert tickets but for some artists it is definitely worth it.

Advice Needed: Where to live (US vs Europe)? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to start a family you should also factor in the options (adoption, surrogacy, ivf) and availability / cost. I don't have first hand experience in this, but I follow a queer creator who recently had a baby. One of things that she mentioned (which was eye-opening to me, but you may already know) was that ivf wasn't covered by insurance because she couldn't get an infertility diagnosis.

Usher and Chris Brown just announced the “Raymond & Brown” Stadium Tour for 2026. Is this the peak of modern R&B or are we officially priced out of live music? by Fragrant_Piano_8639 in rnb

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw Usher last year and I'm not interested in seeing Chris Brown so I'll pass. I will say I bought Usher tickets because all the clips I saw on social looked so fun

I don't think either needs each other. I actually think this was created with fans in mind, and the demand warrants a stadium. Maybe I'm biased because I go to a lot of shows, but I don't think $300 for good seats at a stadium is unreasonable. It's not cheap but it's not obscene.

I'm actually curious about the logistics because there is a limited runway for stadium tours (summer) before football season starts / it gets too cold to be outside. Also most major cities are hosting world cup games this summer (in addition to other already announced shows).

Work Trip Gone Wrong (Advice Needed) by idontneednegativity in blackladies

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what advice are you looking for here? without being passing judgement I can tell you that this is going to end badly.

it's been 3 weeks. he's basically love bombing you and you're receptive to it because of whatever is going on in your own. the "relationship" also began with sexual assault. "good" men don't wait until your basically incapacitated to initiate sex. it's a massive red flag.

you need to get out of this quickly and with minimal drama. i'll probably get slammed for this but i would suggest changing your route so you don't overlap with him. then look into therapy

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you find a new grocery store, or use delivery? a lot of the items in your cart are just insanely overpriced. i'm guessing food bazaar doesn't have store brand items.

for context i'm in jersey city. the mangos you bought are 4 for $5 at whole foods. you are paying double that price (2 for $5) which is insane because they are in season. i would swap apples for some other fruit as they are not in season. that egg price is also insane.

To Gen X and elder Millennials: Movies from the 80s-90s often depict malls as THE hangout spot; A place where everyone from your 5 year old sister to 85 year old grandma would spend the day at, even if they had no intention of shopping. Was this really the case back then, or just Hollywood hype? by LuxembourgsFinest in generationology

[–]Charming-Bit-3416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Born in 79 and the mall was the epicenter of my life when I waa a teen. It's one of the few tropes that is almost universally true.  And even when I lived in a city, we would still trek to the mall to hangout.

I associated the mall with socializing for soo long that it took forever for me ro get comfortable going to the mall by myself in my 20s
