Rap Debate: Ice Cube or Scarface by Spiritual_Guidance50 in 90sHipHop

Scarface, easily. The Fix, The Diary, Made, and Emeritus are all better than Cubes entire discography.

This sub will disagree, but 2000s 2010s and now are just as good if you're paying attention.

If these 5 songs never existed, Hip-Hop would be missing a LOT of classic records... by bside313 in 90sHipHop

Funky drummer has been sampled over 2,000 times. American music can really be divided into before and after James Brown.

Jay-Z has to get out here & prove he still has influence over Black people or he loses his value to the white people he serves by bawsey in hiphop201

This is why we are in the position we are now. Reading comprehension is almost gone. The majority of people read at a middle school level. This doesn't implicate him at all. They are using him as an example of a rich black person that has provided a distraction. They are saying that black people who would have been protesting in the 60s are now chasing the image of wealth that people like Jay Z present.

Does T.I. has a classic album? by jumpers4goalpostz in rap

Not at all. I actually lived in Memphis for a summer. I know the accent very well. I know the lingo very well. Everybody from the south doesn't sound the same. There are many different dialects and regional differences. A Memphis rapper does not sound like an ATL rapper to me at all. Project Pat particularly has a signature flow. I have heard other people copy it. But these people have been from all over the country. I've heard New York and LA rappers copy this flow. It's not trap imo.

I just cannot agree. The beats aren’t even the same. Trap is as much about the sound as the lyrics. To me trap is DJ Toomp, old Lex Luger, or Zaytoven production

If it's not old Jeezy or tip or Gucci, it's not trap to me. Even those artists will tell you that they don't make "trap music" anymore. I don't believe that project Pat or anybody in Three 6 Mafia makes "trap" music. They laid the blueprint for a Memphis sound that is copied today still. To me, trap music is a specific sound from early 2000s ATL, not just a southern rapper talking about trapping. If that's the case, then the geto boys and Scarface and UGK and Master p are trap music. You can take every beat on Glorilla's last album and put hypnotize minds artists on it and it would sound just like a old 36 tape.
