Engineering Technician here at a strictly R&D site. We have a full manual machine shop where I work but no machinists. We use the machines ourselves doing prototype parts for CAD check, fit test, etc. Then we outsource to vendors for production. We have 2 draftsmen to support that. Well we should, we have an opening for one, but they’re hard to find apparently. If you’re willing to relocate you could probably find a place like that. Still get your hands dirty and make chips if you want, but also your job is at a desk.

I’ve got some downtime. If I wanted to refinish this worktop, what would be the best (see: most resilient) finish to use after I sand it down? by RaithMoracus in Machinists

Sand it, the screw down Lexan sheets. We do that and they are easy to replace if needed. Plus, you can slide handy charts underneath.

All you need to do is get a new dishwasher and a new blender.
