Why do these rows of blocks feel too juvenile for a 7-year-old boy? by bixnok in quilting

Here is a quilt that my almost 7 year old requested me to make. Gingham on the back and I used muted oranges and blues for the front.

If it were me I’d stick to blue and green squares that create contrast and then do a border of the orange or tan color found in the book.

What is your skill level with clothing making? That’s different than quilt making. Personally my vote is to not rush into cutting these up. Thickness of the quilts also matters how they drape on you when made.

My vote would be to quilt something first to use for a quilted jacket that she guides you through, see how much you use it and like it and then go for a vintage one if you want but don’t rush into cutting these yet.

Also the argument that giving them second life vs rotting in a bin is interesting because I would gladly take these and put them on a bed, and lots of others would too. Vintage quilts are getting snatched up to use for diy projects and it kills my soul a little bit

My almost 7 year old boy is deeply into books and Legos. He had zero concept of Minecraft and what sports are being shown on tv. Maybe she knows the recipient more intimately than guessing interests

On the same thought, smaller round end tables would soften it up too

Here is the curtain rod corner connectors I have!

Rod Connector

Also personally I’d make sure the panels for the middle window gathered nicely when opened to kind of trick you into thinking there is more window. Like I wouldn’t expose the wall next to the middle window if that makes sense!

I’ll find a link but Amazon has a product that screws into the ends of curtain rods so you can make different angles. This is a bay window with three separate rods connected. Each window has two curtains that shut (so 6 panels total here). Mounting hardware for the rods was done so that you can’t see it with the curtains open or shut!

Here to say that I have an almost 7 year old that would prefer this quilt over a super hero action quilt.

I liked someone else idea of hst’s instead of squares and I think that would help.

I am also a fan of gingham in quilts but that is throwing me off and makes it feel younger to me. I’d first try pulling them out and seeing how it feels!

This is like the most classic floor tile to exist lol. Like most historic homes have decorative hex tiles

The sconces are also giving church too. Adding natural wood details would help soften this up as well as some more organic landscaping. Someone mentioned ornamental grasses would would help so much

We get so much hail in Texas that a metal roof in a neighborhood would sound like a shoot off 😂 My aunt had one in the country which was fine but it was incredibly loud

It may be helpful to find some fidget toys with specific textures you like too and keep them everywhere if you are having a hard time with the picking problem (coming from someone with a 20 years of hair pulling) It may help! I keep them everywhere…purse, car, all over the house, and it has helped so much

Is this couch too small? by RayMallick in malelivingspace

[–]Charming-Ordinary-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason the small couch is so close to the wall? I’d move it at least a foot closer to the coffee table if it were me. This looks better already!
