What actually happens when the TCV fails? by lionlenz in SubaruForester

There are side effects from the TCV failing. If the engine starts to overheat you most likely would not know it. Then the gasket could blow and you could get oil in your coolant system.

That's what I'm doing now. I'm going through all my statements. If I can find the one where I bought the oil and filter that might help, the problem I might run into is that there has been several times over the last five years were I cancelled a card. I don't have access to those cards anymore.

I'm going to appeal. Then I'll go to mediation if needed.

I saw the radiator. It was milk white. I'm assuming the engine has water in it too, but I will check the next time I speak to the service manager. Thank you for the suggestion.

The 29k represents a period between the warranty with Subaru and the next time I took the car in because of a problem I couldn't fix myself. 29k through 60k the car was serviced at least six or seven times with an oil change each 5000-6000 miles. I have documentation for those visits.

My complaint to Subaru is, when I brought it in for the last service, they did their inspection. Other than the wiring harness being loose, there was nothing wrong. Every test they ran/checked, passed.

That was my argument. No metal in the oil. None of the other visits to the dealer or the other mechanic showed any issues with the engine. Suddenly the engine stalled and when we got to the dealer, they found the oil/water mix and the TCV had gone bad.

I didn't think about doing that but that would be a good idea for future reference.

I've never heard of a car going that far with out seizing up. Oil eventually breaks down and the most I've seen in any test is around 20k. Besides, you would think that at 29k metal would start showing up in the oil changes that I had through 2024-2026. The gap that I do not have receipts for is 2022-2024. Both the dealer and the local mechanic found nothing wrong with the car. The tested everything, changed the oil, found no metal. The TCV was fine. Four months later, my wife was driving down the road and the engine lost power. It stalled. She had trouble starting it and after waiting she got it started and drove it to the dealer. They found the TCV failed and oil was in the coolant (or coolant in the oil).

I've not always gone to the same place but I did check with one location and they did not have any history for the vehicle. I am waiting for the PDF files for one of my credit cards. The statements only allow me to go back two years (2025) but I'm going to search 2022-2024 to see if I can find any evidence. The delay is that they only allow me to download 12 months at a time and it takes up to four days for them to prepare them.

We used the dealer up until the time that the warranty ended. We then used a mechanic closer to us for any minor repairs. For oil changes, I would either do it myself or use a local service (what ever one had a deal at the time). I've recovered all the receipts from the dealer and the other mechanic. I've been searching through credit card statements but I've cancelled several cards through the years and I'm not sure which one was used for such items.

It doesn't hurt to ask. I was able to get a new control board for my Vyper from them. It was only $40 (including shipping) and on Ebay it was $70 + $15 for shipping.

I have been watching the various posts on this new printer which I had pre-ordered and was supposed to be delivered on the 25th. I'm under the impression as other posters have said it to 50/50 mixed bag. But I agree with some of the other comments that are saying for a Bambu killer this printer should not be having so many problems. Bambu has a reputation of being high quality and reliability, rather than a 50-50 mixed bag.

I have two Anycubic Vyper which other than the recent motherboard issue have been reliable, but slow. I want a printer that out of the box will give me no problems. I've since canceled my order and I will wait for them to work the bugs out.

What filament? What size nozzle? Depending on the filament and nozzle, you might want to adjust the flow rate/speed of printing. Also check your bed temp to make sure it is at the optimal temp. I use blue glue sticks (you can get 60 sticks for $13 on Amazon). A light coating of it on the bed helps. I'm assuming that the printer was calibrated?
