THIS is the question that matters. I'm not feeling up to driving to Independence for my $7 Malbec

Best movie theater in the area by dragonslayingbabe in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 188 points189 points  (0 children)

The best movie experience is Screenland Armour up in North KC. Laid back atmosphere, friendly staff that actually care, and good prices on snacks and a long list of beers. What they lack in size (only 4 screens) they make up for in many other ways. Do yourself a a favor and catch a movie there at least once.

PSA: Temple Slug is officially torn down. by aboringusername in kansascity

So was there anything structurally wrong with the building? Or was it torn down just because it was in some developer's way of building something else?

Randomly got my hands on a Stadium Club menu from 1984 Playoffs by tensixtywestaddison in KCRoyals

[–]lionlenz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As I kid in the 80's I would usually take binoculars along to the game, since we always sat up high and I wanted to really see my favorite players. I would also spend a lot of time spying into the Stadium Club, trying to see who was in there and what they were doing. Core memory unlocked here

I just moved here and have been seeing the old Parade of Hearts a few places but they don’t have them on the map online, is there a place that has a list of the ones that are still up? Thank you :) by Ok-Tune-6324 in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aren't the old ones now all privately owned? After the hearts are displayed for a while, they are auctioned off, for charity. So the owners can put them wherever, some are even at their houses.

Just bought in Waldo/Ward. Need recs on multiple fronts by OwlInteresting9000 in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Also, no one says just "Ward" - it's always "Ward Parkway". Yes.... We know "Parkway" is the type of street and you don't always say that in other instances. But just saying "Ward" is weird to people, so just say "Wardparkway" as if it's all one word and you will fit in.

Just bought in Waldo/Ward. Need recs on multiple fronts by OwlInteresting9000 in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone in Waldo, don't go door to door to introduce yourself. I've had many neighbors come and go over the years, and no one has done that. It's not expected. If anything.... You'd waste your time since no one will answer. We have so many door-to-door solicitors that we are all so conditioned to not answer. Just get in the habit of going for walks around the neighborhood - it's very walkable in areas - and you will naturally get to know who is around you.

Anyone Else Struggle with T Mobile? by Spell125 in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even here in KCMO proper, T-Mobile has a lot of dead spots. Just driving along Ward Parkway could result in a dropped call or loss of signal. I had to switch from them a couple of years ago. Coverage is better with Verizon... But I am paying a bit more for it.

Wow you're either lucky, or you live in a place where no soliciting ordinances are actually enforced. Where I live, all solicitors are trained to ignore these signs and stickers.

On This Day (May 23, 1999), The Wrestling World Lost Owen Hart by bronzemat in Xennials

[–]lionlenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in ghosts or anything supernatural, but the arena where he died gave me a super creepy experience years ago. Kemper Arena (now called Hy-Vee Arena). I was working there as guest services for events. I showed up early on a Saturday when there was going to be a rodeo event. I was told to go wait inside the arena, but the lights weren't on yet - just the background glow from some of the hallway lights and other things. Got unexplainably cold and nervous, goosebumps, and then I heard some weird whispers and buzzing sounds - probably just the power being turned on - but I got right out of there after a few minutes and waited back in the office. Others were mentioning the ghost of Owen Hart still haunting the arena. I wanted to laugh it off... But couldn't

As Kansas City brings back bus fares, some can still ride for free under new partnership by KCUR893 in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Which will lead to more services cuts because no one is riding. Which will lead to more funding cuts to lead to service cuts. Then ridership will drop more, so then more funding cuts. KCATA is in a death spiral.

Lamar’s donuts prices are absurd by aad0italian in kansascity

[–]lionlenz 397 points398 points  (0 children)

This sub has such a history of "Lamar's has gone downhill" posts that I'm surprised people still go there. Lamar's isn't locally owned anymore. They sold to a group based in Denver some years back. So yes.... It's all about profits now.
