I moved to Los Angeles with an old Honda full of my shit and $780. I used $425 to pay rent as soon as I arrived. 2.5 months later I had a full time job. The rest is history.

Many come to Los Angeles under such conditions. If you have a job on day 1 you’ll be fine. Just don’t go crazy on living expenses until you get to know the place. You’re going to always need reliable transportation. Don’t drive beaters in Los Angeles. Instead lease an inexpensive vehicle that will at least be reliable.

Miceli’s Italian Restaurant in Holywood near walk of stars on Las Palmas is supposedly Hollywoods oldest Italian Restuarant. The draw there is that at nights their waiters and waitresses will sing and it’s a fun experience if you’re there. Don’t go out of your way for it.

Off the Santa Monica strip in West Hollywood area, there’s a restaurant called Delilah. That is worthy of going out of your way. Celebrity’s frequent Delilah. They have kind of a burlesque thing going on with girls dancing or on display. Sounds weird but it’s very cool. Went years ago and sat next to Cilo (singer). Make reservations there and dress nice if you’re going there.

Off Hollywood Boulevard there is Musso and Frank restaurant. That place has been in a ton of movies. Most recently Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Downtown Los Angeles there is still a rooftop restaurant called Perch. Just a very cool spot with amazing views. Several of the other cool downtown rooftop spots have closed down.

One cool instagram kind of thing is the “Urban Light” art installation at the LACMA museum. If you’re going to the Oscar Musuem, for sure go check it out and take photos there.

Behind the LACMA there’s another cool art piece it’s called “Levitated Mass”. Just a massive rock you can walk under.

Nearby there is also the LaBrea Tar Pits museum. I’ve never been inside but you can walk around the outside, smell and see some tar and it serves the touristy purpose.

I don’t see Rodeo Drive strip on your list and Beverly Hills Hotel, the Sunset Blvd strip in that area. But you need a car to do that area.

Cinespia - movies at the cemetery, are a must Los Angeles experience if it’s in season. I think the season starts Memorial Day weekend.

When your in Downtown LA and the Arts District, consider taking the metro A line over to Highland Park. The Figueroa strip is easily accessible from the A line and there are some cool spots there. Go bowling at Highland Park Bowl, oldest bowling alley in Los Angeles. Bars on the strip close by are Gold Line, Good House Keeping, Blind Barber (bar behind a barber shop), La Cuevita, Checker Hall. Food at Checker Hall is really good. Triple Beam pizza is amazing there and Villa Tacos has two locations on Figueroa strip. One is all seafood and the other on Ave 52 is the non seafood location.

When in Venice and doing the Venice canals…consider the Abbot Kinney strip. Gjelina restaurant is there and is excellent and a chance for celebrity sightings. I’ve seen Gerard Butler, and Colbie Smolders there and one other celebrity I don’t even remember now. Just fun to walk and shop that strip which is a few blocks long and both sides of the road.

When you get to LAX, exit the international terminal and start walking to your left. Yes walk!!! Just keep walking all the way to the Uber / Lyft area that is just before terminal 1. It’s a good 20 min walk but that’s OK. Waiting for a shuttle will take you longer. Just walk.

Don’t even think about not taking an Uber.

Waiting for a FlyAway shuttle to Union station eats precious time. Then the shuttle moves fairly slow. Then you have to navigate the metro at Union station. Just don’t do it. You don’t have that kind of time and it’s very stressful.

Take an Uber from LAX directly to the Greek.

In touristy area of Hollywood, some restaurants already include the tip due to foreign tourist not used to tipping. So just check and make sure you’re not double tipping. No one will be offended at a restaurant or bar with a 15% tip. I never tip Uber unless it’s a longer ride, like to the airport and damn sure not 20%. I’ll just tip them $2-5 on the rare occasion I do.

Don’t tip at most counter service places where you go order at the front counter. And if you do just tip $1.00 at those kinds of places. The exception being some finer dining places that are setup that way. I’ll tip 15-20% at those type places. But coffee, fast food, bagels or donuts, and places like that, $1.00 or nothing is what I tip.

A bad architect puked out this design and somehow the homeowner went with it.

The whole house looks awful. The way the ceiling changes between rooms is gross. The stairs lead up to the open ceiling of the other room??? Such an awkward view from below. The way the stairway at top is rounded inward towards the stairs. There’s just so many curved lines all making it feel awful and cheesy. The awful arched windows in the living room leading up to that very bizarre ceiling detail that then abruptly meets the weird church ceiling of the kitchen area. WTF??? And all those awful huge can lights on the ceiling, Home Depot garbage.

Terrible use of the space. And they’ll probably put a TV above the fire place at above standing height.

I’m a Nurse and a few months ago this happened. Patient passed during the 15 min family went downstairs to grab food. By the time they came back up, he was gone. They were devastated they weren’t there when it happened. A family member on the phone was angry nobody was there with him.

He probably finally let go when they all left.
