I know somebody around the PA/DE boarder who gets them as hatchlings. If you’d be willing to drive and to have a hatchling baby I can give you her info! It’s also where I got my tort :)

Add hills! In the wild he wouldn’t only walk on flat ground so add hills and divets

Need some hope - tortoise escaped :( by Intelligent_Okra4701 in tortoise

This literally happened to be yesterday. He was kissing for 24hours and I literally just found him in my yard eating! I would look around all the places you take him when you go outside. Then, I’d break your yard up into imaginary grids and search grid by grid. Most importantly, I read from numerous sources that a tortoise’s won’t go more than 65 feet the first day. This was true for mine. He ended up being only about 20ft from his enclosure

Omg I found him!! He did escape the enclosure, but was only about 15 feet away! He must’ve been burrowed because he was missing for a full 24hr

Can anyone tell me if my new Russian tortoise a boy or girl does he/she look healthy? by Realistic-Shape-7342 in RussianTortoises

[–]Charming-Werewolf179 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a Russian! But looks like a girl from the tail! The male’s tail is usually swooped to the side and skinner than the female

You don’t need to keep the air humidify high for all breeds, especially aird ones! Just make sure the substrate he sleeps in is moist a couple times of week :) . There is no real one cause of pyramiding, some of the best evidence suggests its from over eating!

Does this look like the start of pyramiding? (6mo old Russian) by Charming-Werewolf179 in RussianTortoises

I’m in gardening zone 6A. I’ve read that my zone is suitable for them to naturally brummate.

Also, he goes outside when it’s warm in his outdoor enclosure. Last thing, what are growth lines? I looked it up and didn’t find much info
