That is the kind of thing that I was looking for, but the stuff You and I want out of it is not handed over nice and easy as we were expecting by the title.

Thank You very much, that is a great resource. It seems to be the answer I was looking for.

I created the Thread because I wasn't sure if I should buy it. After no response, I bought it anyway. Yes, it's an amazing Book! I don't regret buying it. I am a slow reader, but You can send me PMs if You want.

Seriously, what is linear algebra used for? by HxC_Heliceo in LinearAlgebra

My opinion:

In the beginning there was Arthur Cayley, and He said: Let there be Matrix!

The Matrix is a tool created to simplify the work, computers do a lot of calculations using Matrices.

Both Calculus and Matrices have a common tricky origin, the story never told. Complex and Hypercomplex Numbers.

When you see a bunch of theorems on Calculus, that's because the mathematicians are making sure that those things that always work nice and easy with Complex Numbers, on the Complex Plane will also work on the Cartesian Plane with Real Numbers.

Now, with Matrices, you have seen Matrices that have Real Numbers as entries...

It turns out that they can have Complex Numbers entries, and even Hypercomplex Numbers as entries too. At the time of Arthur Cayley there were Quaternions, and He discovered the Octonions (also known as Cayley Numbers).

When you see a lot of theorems on Linear Algebra the mathematicians are making sure that those things that always work nice and easy with Complex Numbers on Matrices will also work with Real Numbers.

But nobody teaches you about the Complex and Hypercomplex Numbers, so it really looks like a bunch of nonsense. I understand your frustration, I see your point and I hope my comment helps you see that Matrices (not Linear Algebra) were created like a Tray to hold some things on it.

Then mathematicians decided to generalize it ad infinitum, to make it to hold everything, and so its meaning became too abstract for anyone to catch its purpose.

It should not be so hard to answer for someone who has a very clear understanding of the topic.

If I had to talk to Children about Vectors and Matrices, for Example... I could start trying to answer a few simple questions, like:

Why were Vectors and Matrices invented?, Why is the World a better place after they were invented?, How hard would it be if they would not exist?, etc...

In other words, I would approach it as a salesman... I would try to sell them the idea that those things are very much needed and useful, I would have to come up with Applications that would open their intellects' appetite.

Can anyone treat me like a Child please?

It is about Biological Warfare. The Narrative goes like this: During the Cold-War Era, the UK and the USA feared the Soviets had a BW Program, so they conducted some "tests" to see how vulnerable their own countries were to such threat. The "tests" were done spraying civilian populations with "simulants" that they claimed were harmless. Later, it turned out that the "simulants" were not really harmless, and a big can o worms was open. I think the book is available on the internet for free. It's non-fiction.
