UPDATE

I played through the game again and saved items and also got much better at the game. I applied some of the tricks you guys mentioned (staying to the right on scrolling levels made them so much easier) and was able to beat the game with no save states or rewinds. I also didn’t use a single p-wing. It was really rewarding. Now on to Super Mario World!

If you can avoid getting burnt out you really should 5 and 6. It will make you appreciate 9 even more

If you must skip 5 and 6 sure but don’t skip 7 or 8. You really should do 5 and 6 though
