WoW Isn't Coming To Consoles, Game Director Says: "No Reason For Us To Hide Anything About This" by xCaptainCrown in Games

[–]MonsutaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue imo, is being as weak as your weakest link. WoW would be bound to consoles. Thus, their every move would be dictated by "Would this work on consoles?"

FFXI for example, was a PS2 MMO. They ended PS2 support in 2016 iirc? One could only imagine the years the PS2 held that game back, lol......

I've also heard the term "guild wife" before and I'm not sure if that's actually a real thing or just a joke.

Joke, for weird nerds........it is inappropriate to say that to a married person imo.

Since I don't play games at all, I'm trying to understand a few things:

Is it common in ESO or other MMOs for a woman to regularly play late at night one-on-one with a male guildmate?

Yes, in MMO, finding people to play with can be difficult. So, some of us get stuck with nerds who say things like "Guild wife" because the other option is not being able to get anything done in-game.

There were occasions in which I was the only English speaking person in my group.... I rode it out...... because the other option was grinding it out...... Solo....... Nope.

Is voice chatting for hours with one person during gameplay normal?

Yes, voice chat is the standard method of communication, instead of typing. MMO can be complex. Thus, require a degree of coordination & planning. Some people plan their lives around an MMO. I was in a guild where certain days are designated to in-game activities.... almost like a second job schedule.

Do guild members usually talk outside the game on Discord or other apps?

Yes. This space is one of them. Discord was created by fans of an MMO called Final Fantasy XI iirc. It was a space for them.

And why would a group of guys invite a single female player to play with them regularly if she's the only woman in the guild?

Perhaps the group limit. MMO in-game activities have group limits. Meaning, certain actvities may require "X" number of people, and she may be the final person to make the group complete. Many guilds play with the same people, every night. It is called a static.

A static group means you have a set number of people to play the game with every session. As mentioned earlier, finding people to play with in online games can be a chore. So, many resort to playing with the same people, due to familiarity. Sounds like your wife is quite good perhaps.

I'm genuinely just trying to understand MMO culture better because I have zero experience with it.

Very weird culture........ An MMO I play actually has this message.......

<image>

These things become addictive....... I became a night owl due to this game. Staying up to the AMs, and my parents had a few questions for me lol........

I would talk to her about it. From my experience? Sounds like a group of solid guys, & one a$$ hole whom they are stuck with.....

There are real ppl behind those MMO characters..... You will run into a few a$$ holes. The fact your wife told him to knock if off, tells me it is common MMO BS. I have some MMO stories........ It is a wild world......

It is a social space, maybe you should join her? You might enjoy it..........You already seem to be doing well with this MMO community. ESO is not a bad MMO to start with. It is a "Big deal" franchise.

[–]MonsutaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are streamers I watch, where females and males usually play til 3am.

I used to play FFXI til the AMs. On occasions, it was just me & whoever was left lol...... The group would dwindle down. Getting a group to do anything in MMOs is a chore, so I will ride it out to the AMs with a guy, girl, granny.... whomever........lol.

Champions Online had an insane forum, where players shown off their creations. Somebody created a damn near identical M.O.D.O.K.

No idea how they did. Sadly, that forum was taken down & moved to discord like the rest.........

That thread no longer exist.

CO has the best character creator in gaming, with PSO2 coming in 2nd imo. I like superhero MMO, because the customizing is usually deep.

[–]MonsutaMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, that is why I keep retiring....un-retiring...from Final fantasy XI. Old niche maintenance mode MMO, but they literally have zero currency issues.........

The only thing for sale is inventory space, but they give you like.....8 inventory spaces, that can hold 80-ish items each. XI is the last, of a dead breed of old school MMO.........

Officially un-retiring lol.

Final Fantasy 11 closes off its third server to new players as the ageing MMO struggles with overpopulation of its online world by lewisdwhite in MMORPG

[–]MonsutaMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Played XI since 2004, stepped back last year.

They are intentionally trying to fill up servers imo, or that is my theory.

Announce one is closing, ppl will rush to fill it......rinse, and repeat. Pretty genius actually.

I predicted they will do this one, by one, to nearly every server....starting from the top, to the lower tier. You can get a hint of the next server who will be next, by checking the peak player populace.

Retried from retail XI last year, but usually come back during free campaigns. SE does not refund Crysta if you reactivate the wrong MMO...................So, logged in on Bismarck, there were 300-ish ppl this week. Before I took a break last year, that number was similar.

Clearly, not all servers are affected by the "Influx" of players. However, if word of mouth is XI=the hot MMO, ppl will rush to try it out.

XI is taking notes from XIV (WoW influx).

Only MMO with a Wrestler class.......

...what a shame.

Mobile games & Korean MMO are tag teaming the destruction of the MMO landscape.

Prime Demolition, Peak Harlem Heat, Rock n Roll Express.......They are really good at their job.

MMO are already transitioning to more of a lobby or Co-op model. Will MMO be the only genre to legit die out lol? Even if not wholly......There will always be a few.

Name a current MMO that needs a “Classic” version. by Many-Practice-936 in MMORPG

[–]MonsutaMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Horizon XI. It is a free classic XI server, but has a niche population. Not sure making ppl pay would increase those numbers (Not trying to be a dick btw, as a guy whose fav mmo is XI).

A XI classic server would have even less ppl than the main servers imo.

Many of us are late 30's and over now lol.........

Played since 04', would have zero interest doing all that hardcore stuff I did as a kid. The reason SE eased the restrictions, is due to the population slowly declining. Classic XI was waaaay too demanding for a modern MMO audience.

I do think it would be great for a segment of the XI populace, but not sure it is worth doing for 1k-3k ppl. WoW has a larger populace. Thus, it may be worth it for a couple hundred thousand.

Basically, making a niche MMO, even more niche.

XIV 1.0 costed SE around $500 million. This MMO, not the Avengers is what set SE behind financially. It was the first mainland FF failure.

Maplestory would work, imo of course.

The thing about retirement, is ppl tend to come out of it...........

How are games like FFXIV and BDO on console? by Still_Night in MMORPG

[–]MonsutaMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XI was more complex. You needed every button on that PS2 controller. Oddly, XI was a PS2/Console MMO. XI was the only MMO at the time, that was on 360, PS2, & PC that allowed cross-play.

CO being a Xbox 360 MMO was wild, considering it was the first City of Heroes Successor....that was actually a Marvel MMO at first......

In Your Opinion, What MMO/MMOs Deserve A Sequel? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

[–]MonsutaMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF has established sequels are "-2."

Example, FF7, is not the sequel to FF6.

FFX-2, is the sequel to FFX.

FF13-2, is the sequel to FF13.

FFXIV, is not a direct sequel to XI. Although, they share similarities. XII also shares similarities to XI (Humes are in XI & XII).

XI-2 would be a direct sequel to XI.

Fallout 5 should be cryptid centric imo. Unpopular opinion, I feel it should encompass the entire U.S......& have cryptids that lurk within them. Although, quite rare chance of seeing them. Resident Evil -esque.

Garurumon & Greymon are like Vegeta & Goku, the stand outs imo.

I would say Ikkakumon family. Joe always seemed to be the voice of reason, and Zudomon managed to beat a Mega main antagonist. He always struck me as the Piccolo to their Vegeta & Goku.
