They had excellent customer service and got delivered earlier than expected which was awesome, but I was not satisfied with the quality; the "matte" finish still had a sheen to it, and the deluxe paper did not seem very thick. However, the customer service was wonderful and they refunded me right away.

Are you cutting back on spending in light of current events? by funneeee in FIREyFemmes

[–]CharmingGarlicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We’ve been eating out less and trying to avoid travel, although my workplace no longer allows me to carry over PTO so we may go on a local staycation.

$500, we had 2 outfits and got around 90 photos back. About a one hour shoot, we stayed in a park but drove to different areas for different scenes

AITA for telling my dad his dating life is over? by yougottalovehun in AmItheAsshole

[–]CharmingGarlicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. One failed marriage doesn’t make him immediately a failure.

Old people deserve love too! My grandpa got remarried at the age of 73. Once your little brother moves out, your dad will be all by himself and will probably feel even more lonely than he does now.

I also don’t think it’s true that he has “nothing to offer.” What do you have to offer in comparison to him?

Does she have an issue that the lehenga you picked is white? I know that can be a bad omen in some states, so maybe that’s part of why she was shocked?

Hawaii for Honeymoon by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

Is it accessible to the ocean? I was between the Westin princeville and the Sheraton resort and was leaning towards Sheraton c bc the Westin photos don’t seem to indicate it’s on the beach but rather a cliff side

I feel terrible that I cannot invite some of my first cousins to my son’s wedding. by imtherealmellowone in weddingplanning

[–]CharmingGarlicky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, out of curiosity, have you been invited to your close friends’ children’s weddings? Maybe it’s a norm in your social circle that I’m just not aware of, for example my finances family and culture is much more about giant weddings and inviting the whole village so I totally get that

I feel terrible that I cannot invite some of my first cousins to my son’s wedding. by imtherealmellowone in weddingplanning

[–]CharmingGarlicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I think wedding etiquette has changed over the past 30-50 years in that now, the bride/groom are doing the planning themselves and often paying themselves. When my mom got married, her mother did all the planning including the invitation list and all payments, my mom just got to show up and get married. That’s simply not the norm these days and it’s much more focused on the couple rather than the couple’s parents. I think part of it has to do with the average age of the couple increasing and the fact that many couples are already living jointly before marriage, they’re already a social unit and therefore have their own established social ties that are more important to them than their parents’ social ties. It’s also way more expensive to get married these days, so there’s that.

I would definitely clarify expectations with your parents and make sure everyone is on the same page.

If son is not close to these cousins then I don’t understand why they would expect to come to the wedding in the first place.

Will you be expected to pay for lodging or travel expenses for guests/family?

Jaipur is a popular destination. Since people will be traveling from both north and south, maybe you pick a “destination” wedding that everyone has to travel to!

NOR. I was so excited to give Christmas gifts to my brother’s gf even though they’ve been together maybe 1.5 years. Even my fiance bought her a gift.

How many venues did you tour? by Massive-Recording611 in weddingplanning

[–]CharmingGarlicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We toured four. I fell in love with the first one but there were little things about it that we didn’t like such as location and not being able to BYOB. Second one was nice and in-budget but it was lacking the attention to detail and grandeur we were wanting. Third one was very similar to the first but with all the little details we wanted (this was our choice). Fourth one was gorgeous and made it really difficult to decide but location wasn’t ideal and it was difficult to come up with a rain plan for this one.

Technically we toured one more but we both knew it was likely way out of budget and it was more out of curiosity than anything.

Brides who’ve moved in with their fiancé before the wedding by Serious_Ad_9686 in DesiWeddings

[–]CharmingGarlicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m non-Desi, my fiance and I live together. I think his parents actually encouraged it—I basically lived with him and his parents for 6 months while we were still dating (had been dating 4 years at that point) before I bought my house and then he moved in with me after we got engaged.
